Buying car parts from Dubai for Bahrain

Updated

The quick answer

A buyer in Bahrain messages our WhatsApp parts desk with the part, a part number or the VIN, and a person replies with a quote for stock held in the UAE, in the Sharjah and Dubai markets or in their yards. The buyer's cargo agent takes over in Dubai and moves the part on by road over the King Fahd Causeway, by sea or by air. Bahrain charges 5% duty and 10% VAT, and it bans used and reconditioned tyres.

Key facts

  • Customs duty is 5% on most goods from outside the GCC, applied by Bahrain Customs under the GCC customs union.
  • VAT is 10% since 1 January 2022, up from the 5% it began at in 2019, and it is charged on imports on the customs value plus duty.
  • Used and reconditioned tyres are on Bahrain's prohibited import list, and so are asbestos-containing items.
  • The importer or a local agent completes a customs bill of entry, and the US Commercial Service advises a registered, licensed clearing agent.
  • The King Fahd Causeway is 25 km long, opened on 26 November 1986 and carries trucks; one-stop crossing has been in place since 6 March 2017.
  • Bahrain had 781,152 vehicles on its roads in 2023 and sold 37,713 new ones in 2025, with Toyota holding 32.1%.
  • Khalifa Bin Salman Port at Hidd, inaugurated in April 2009, is Bahrain's main gateway for containers, general cargo and roll-on roll-off.
  • Bahrain is missing from the top ten destinations in the UAE's 2023 motor vehicle parts export figures, where tenth place was about USD 108 million.

What a buyer in Bahrain asks us for

Bahrain is a small parc with a strong Toyota core. The General Directorate of Traffic counted 781,152 vehicles on the road in 2023, and 37,713 new vehicles were sold in 2025, up 8.8%. Toyota held 32.1%. The Land Cruiser led the model table with a 7.2% share, ahead of the Jetour T2, the Hilux, the Yaris sedan, the Nissan Sunny, the Ford Territory and the Toyota Ace, while Nissan, Lexus and MG followed Toyota and Jetour among the brands.

Bahrain is absent from the top ten destinations in the UAE's 2023 export figures for motor vehicle parts, where tenth place was about USD 108 million, so expect small orders. An owner or a workshop after one part or a short list is the case our desk is built for: send the part, the number or the VIN and a person checks what UAE stock and the Sharjah and Dubai markets can supply.

Bahrain adds 10% VAT to 5% duty

Bahrain applies the GCC common external tariff of 5% to most goods from outside the GCC, and unlike Kuwait and Qatar, which have no VAT, it also charges VAT at the border. The standard VAT rate has been 10% since 1 January 2022, according to the Bahrain national portal; VAT was first introduced on 1 January 2019, at 5%.

Import VAT is worked out on the customs value, which includes the freight and insurance to Bahrain, plus the duty. It is collected by Bahrain Customs at the point of import, with the duty, according to published VAT guidance. A VAT-registered business importer may be able to account for the VAT on its return instead, if it holds the authorisation; other importers pay at the border. Your clearing agent confirms which applies.

Bahrain's tyre ban and the asbestos rule

Bahrain's prohibited-import list, as summarised by the US Commercial Service in December 2025, includes used and reconditioned tyres. That settles it for used tyres: one cannot be sent to Bahrain, however cheap it is in a Sharjah yard. New tyres are not on the list we read, and any standards paperwork for them is a question for your clearing agent.

The same list prohibits asbestos and asbestos-containing items. We could not find a Bahraini notice about vehicle parts specifically, so treat this as a reason to ask rather than as a ruling: if a brake lining, clutch facing or gasket is old stock of uncertain origin, say so on WhatsApp and ask your agent before it is collected. The list we read does not name engines, gearboxes, body panels or electrical parts.

Clearing a parts shipment in Bahrain

Bahrain's customs process starts with a bill of entry. The US Commercial Service's Bahrain guide, updated in December 2025, says importers or their local agents must complete a customs bill of entry before goods are imported, that invoices must detail the correct value and origin of the goods, and that importers should strongly consider a registered, licensed clearing agent so that procedures are completed quickly.

The same guide states the GCC rule for goods that entered the union elsewhere first. Duty-free entry follows when the importer presents certificates issued by the first single-entry point as proof that duty was paid; if payment cannot be proved, Bahrain, as the final destination, collects the duty itself. A part manufactured in the GCC counts as a national good throughout. Whether the UAE paperwork on a given consignment satisfies Bahrain Customs is for your agent to settle before the parts leave Dubai.

Because the invoice must show value and origin, tell our desk early if the part is used, remanufactured or of uncertain origin. A part with no maker mark and a vague invoice is likely to draw questions at the border.

Across the King Fahd Causeway, or by sea or air

Easy Auto does not ship abroad and does not set delivery times. Whoever you appoint as cargo agent or forwarder collects the part in Dubai and chooses how it travels. For Bahrain that means road, sea or air, and the agent can say which suits the weight of the part and when you need it.

Bahrain has no land border with the UAE, so the road goes through Saudi Arabia: out of the UAE at the Ghuwaifat crossing, across Saudi Arabia, and over the King Fahd Causeway. The causeway is 25 km long, was inaugurated on 26 November 1986 and is maintained by the King Fahd Causeway Authority. Customs and immigration sit on Passport Island in the middle, trucks pay a toll per ton, and a one-stop crossing for passport control, car clearance and customs has operated since 6 March 2017.

By sea, Khalifa Bin Salman Port in the Hidd Industrial Area, about 10 km from the international airport, was inaugurated in April 2009 and is Bahrain's main gateway for containerised, general and roll-on roll-off cargo. Some items cannot take an ordinary courier flight at all: wet and lithium batteries, airbags and pretensioners, gas shocks, fluids and engines that have not been drained are dangerous goods that need a specialist carrier.

What travels well to Bahrain and what does not

Mechanical and body parts from the same GCC-specification models suit a Bahraini buyer best: engines, gearboxes, panels, lamps and electrical modules. Toyota and Nissan lead sales there, and their GCC-specification models share mechanical parts with the UAE market. The table sets out the Bahrain position part by part.

Workshops and traders in Bahrain

A Bahraini workshop that buys from Dubai every few weeks can ask for the trade route instead of single quotes. The trade page sets out how to ask for a price list, what minimum orders mean and how several suppliers' goods can be consolidated in Dubai ahead of one pick-up. Because Bahrain charges VAT as well as duty, a trader should also ask the accountant whether import VAT can be accounted for on its return.

What to send us on WhatsApp

Write what the part is, quote any number on it, and add a photo of the old part. Give the make, model, year and engine of the car, or the VIN, and say if you are after new, aftermarket or used. Say how many you need and whether anything in the order is a tyre, a brake lining or an old-stock friction part.

Tell us which cargo agent will collect in Dubai, or that one is still to be chosen, and who clears for you in Bahrain. A person comes back with a quote and says how payment works. Freight over the causeway or by sea, Bahraini duty and VAT and the clearing agent's fee are agreed with the agent and the broker, not with us.

UAE parts shops that export

These shops are here because our record of each one lists exporting, sending parts outside the UAE, among what it offers. It is a record of what they told us or published, not a check that they send parts to Bahrain today or of what is on the shelf, and none of them has paid to be here. Ask how the part reaches you, and who handles the export paperwork, before you pay.

Questions buyers ask

How do I buy car parts in Dubai for a car in Bahrain?
Yes. Message our WhatsApp parts desk with the part, any number on it, or the VIN. A person looks across UAE stock and the yards of Sharjah and Dubai and replies with a quote. Your own cargo agent collects in Dubai and takes the part to Bahrain, and you or a licensed clearing agent files the customs bill of entry. Easy Auto itself does not do the carrying.
Does Bahrain charge VAT on car parts bought in the UAE?
Yes, when the part is imported. Bahrain's standard VAT rate is 10% and has been since 1 January 2022, charged on the customs value plus duty, on top of 5% customs duty. Kuwait and Qatar have no VAT, so Bahrain adds more at the border than either. Check the rate again when you order.
How much will duty and VAT add to a part in Bahrain?
On the published rates, 5% duty on the customs value, then 10% VAT on the value plus the duty, which comes to 15.5% of the customs value in total. A part with a customs value of 1,000 would carry 155 in taxes. This is arithmetic, not a quote; your clearing agent confirms the tariff line and the value.
Can I import used tyres into Bahrain?
No. Used and reconditioned tyres are on Bahrain's prohibited import list, according to the US Commercial Service's December 2025 summary. Do not order them for Bahrain. New tyres are a separate question, and your clearing agent can tell you what paperwork they need.
What is the route from Dubai to Bahrain for a car part?
By road, sea or air, arranged by your cargo agent. The road leaves the UAE through Saudi Arabia and crosses the 25 km King Fahd Causeway, which has had one-stop customs since March 2017. By sea, Khalifa Bin Salman Port is the main gateway. We do not give delivery times; the agent does.
Do I need a clearing agent in Bahrain?
The US Commercial Service guide says importers or their local agents complete the customs bill of entry, so an agent is not the only route on paper. It still tells importers to strongly consider a registered, licensed clearing agent so processing is quick, and for a single part an agent is the practical choice. Ask the agent about duty, VAT and paperwork before collection in Dubai.
Will a part from Dubai fit my Bahraini car?
In most cases, if the car is a GCC-specification model and the number on the old part matches. Toyota holds about a third of new sales in Bahrain, led by the Land Cruiser, Hilux and Yaris, and these models share their mechanical parts with the UAE market. A VIN lets a person confirm the fit before you commit.
Do you ship to Bahrain?
No. Easy Auto does not move goods abroad and gives no delivery times. Our desk quotes parts from UAE stock or the Sharjah and Dubai yards, and an agent of your choosing collects them in Dubai. Without an agent, ask a person on WhatsApp what to look for in one.
