1VD-FTV V8 diesel engine parts from Dubai for the Land Cruiser

Updated

The quick answer

We quote new parts for Toyota's 4.5 litre 1VD-FTV V8 diesel, found in the Land Cruiser 200 and in some Land Cruiser 70 Series trucks. A V8 list multiplies every line, with eight pistons, eight injectors and two head gaskets, so we match each part to the engine code, the build month and the number of turbochargers. A person on WhatsApp confirms how to pay, and your cargo agent collects the order in Dubai. Send the code, the VIN and the measured bores.

Key facts

  • The 1VD-FTV is a 4,461 cc V8 diesel, 86 mm by 96 mm, with 32 valves and a 16.8 to 1 compression ratio (Wikipedia).
  • Wikipedia dates the engine from 2007 and the Land Cruiser 200 from September 2007 to March 2021; it ran with one or two turbochargers.
  • A Toyota-club article describes gears plus secondary chains for the timing drive, with the coolant pump built into the timing cover, so there is no timing belt.
  • The same article says the 2007 engine has solenoid injectors and the Euro-5 engine piezoelectric ones, so the build date decides which injector fits.
  • Wikipedia's Land Cruiser 70 and VD engine articles disagree on which markets got the V8, and Toyota South Africa's Land Cruiser 79 page lists no V8 today.
  • We found no Toyota failure rates for this engine; the wear points below come from a club's summary of Toyota bulletins and one dated reader answer.

What is the 1VD-FTV, and which Land Cruisers carry it?

The 1VD-FTV is a 4.5 litre V8 diesel of 4,461 cc, with an 86 mm bore, a 96 mm stroke, four valves per cylinder on double overhead camshafts and a 16.8 to 1 compression ratio. Wikipedia's VD article says it uses common-rail direct injection and either one or two variable-geometry turbochargers with an intercooler. A Toyota-club technical article adds a cast-iron block with a 90 degree bank angle, aluminium heads and a timing drive that mixes gears with secondary chains.

Wikipedia dates the engine from 2007, when it entered the Land Cruiser 70 Series in some countries, and the twin-turbo version from September 2007 in the Land Cruiser 200, which ran to March 2021. The Middle East received the 200 Series in late 2007 as a 2008 model, and the club article lists a Lexus LX 450 diesel too. Output depended on the build, as the table shows.

VariantTurbochargersOutput and torque
Single turbo, no intercoolerOne136 kW (185 PS) at 3,200 rpm, 430 Nm at 1,600 rpm
Single turboOne151 kW (205 PS) at 3,400 rpm, 430 Nm at 1,200 to 3,200 rpm
Twin turbo, road useTwo210 kW (286 PS) at 3,400 rpm, 650 Nm at 1,600 to 2,600 rpm

What separates an early V8 diesel from a late one?

The club article describes three sets of hardware. The 2007 Land Cruiser 200 has two variable-geometry turbochargers, one per bank, with electric actuators, and solenoid injectors on a three-plunger common-rail pump. The 2012 Euro-5 version has turbochargers controlled directly by the engine computer, piezoelectric injectors at up to 200 MPa and a diesel particulate filter. The Euro-4 Land Cruiser 70 has a single turbocharger with a vacuum actuator.

That is why an order says more than the engine code. An injector, turbocharger or exhaust part for a 2008 truck is not the part for a 2013 truck, and neither suits a Land Cruiser 70. Send the VIN, the build month, whether the truck has one turbocharger or two, and whether it has a particulate filter. A person matches the parts to those answers, and a photograph of the engine bay settles any disagreement between them.

Where do buyers run the V8 diesel, and where do our sources disagree?

Wikipedia's Land Cruiser 200 article lists Saudi Arabia and South Africa among the markets for the later 200 kW engine, and lists a V8 diesel option for the Middle East from 2008 to 2010; it says the 4.5 litre diesel carried on unchanged in 2012 but was dropped in some markets. Its VD engine article lists the single-turbo version in Southern Africa and the Gulf countries, among others. Our research lists the 1VD among the engines of the Land Cruiser 70, 76 and 79 in East Africa and the Land Cruiser 70 and 200 for Angola.

The sources do not agree on the 70 Series. Wikipedia's Land Cruiser 70 article says the V8 diesel was initially just for the Australian market and that Africa kept the 1HZ and the petrol six, while its engine article names Southern Africa and the Gulf. Toyota South Africa's current Land Cruiser 79 page lists no V8 at all. We therefore claim nothing about which 70 Series in your country carries a 1VD; the code on the block decides.

Which V8 diesel wear points do the sources support?

Toyota publishes no failure rates for the 1VD-FTV, and the sources we could read are secondary. The club's technical article summarises Toyota service bulletins on four fronts: dust entering the intake and wearing the cylinders, where a burr on an air connector was a likely cause and a deburring step entered production in September 2018; piezoelectric injector failure; turbocharger shaft breakage; and oil consumption traced to the vacuum pump in early production. The author adds opinions of his own, including carbon in the upper piston ring groove as the cause of ring wear.

The oil question has a second source. A CarsGuide answer dated 17 June 2010, about a 2008 Land Cruiser 200 V8 diesel using three to four litres per 10,000 km, said early 200 Series trucks had a problem with a seal on the vacuum pump drive that let oil through into the pump. That points at the pump and not the rings for early engines, though it is one answer to one owner. We therefore quote ring sets as an overhaul line and claim nothing about the usual fault.

What does a V8 overhaul list look like, and what must be measured?

A V8 turns every line into a multiple. The club article describes aluminium heads on a cast-iron block, so there are two head gaskets, eight pistons with rings and eight injectors, and on the twin-turbo engines two turbochargers and two EGR valves. The timing side is gears plus secondary chains with hydraulic tensioners, and the coolant pump sits in the timing cover, so we ask whether the pump and the cover gasket belong on the same list.

Measure before you order. For pistons, measure all eight bores across and along the engine near the top and the bottom, and send every reading with the engine code. For bearings send the crankshaft journal diameters and say whether the shells are standard or undersize. One wrong measurement means eight wrong pistons, so we do not quote oversize lines on a guess.

Why grade matters more on a V8 job

Eight of everything makes the grade decision expensive either way. On the Toyota parts we priced in Dubai on 3 November 2026, including 5% VAT, genuine cost 1.7 to 1.9 times quality aftermarket and about 1.5 times the OE-brand part, so a V8 list shows the gap eight times over. Examples of the brands behind the OE-brand and quality aftermarket grades are Denso for injectors, Aisin for water pumps, and NPR, Izumi and Taiho for pistons and bearings.

The word genuine also needs checking, because one budget brake pad listing in Dubai calls itself genuine quality and a label proves nothing by itself. The club article warns that a failed injector can lead to melted pistons, so injectors are the line where a doubtful part costs most. Ask for photographs of each box with its number and compare them with your old unit before you pay.

What to send for a 1VD-FTV quote

Send the engine code stamped on the block, the VIN, the build month and year, and the country. Say whether the truck is a Land Cruiser 200, a 70 Series or a Lexus LX, whether it has one turbocharger or two and whether a particulate filter is fitted. Add the measured bore of all eight cylinders and the crankshaft journal sizes for any oversize or undersize line.

A V8 job should arrive as one list. Every line comes back with its grade and brand named, at trade quantities, and fluids stay out of the quote. The job is quoted as parts only: gaskets, pistons, bearings, injectors, chains and turbocharger parts, each matched to the code you send.

Questions buyers ask

Which Land Cruisers have the 1VD-FTV?
Wikipedia lists the Land Cruiser 200 from September 2007 to March 2021 and the Land Cruiser 70 Series from 2007 in some countries. The club article also lists a Lexus LX 450 diesel. Because the 70 Series list varies by country, send the engine code and the VIN so a person can confirm the match before quoting.
Does the 1VD-FTV have a timing belt?
No. A Toyota-club technical article describes gears from the crankshaft to the injection pump, secondary chains to the intake camshafts and gears to the exhaust camshafts, with hydraulic tensioners. The coolant pump is built into the timing cover. A person quotes the chain and gear parts that match your VIN.
Is oil consumption on a 200 Series V8 diesel caused by the piston rings?
The sources we found do not say so. A CarsGuide answer from 2010 blamed a seal on the vacuum pump drive in early 200 Series trucks, and the club article cites a bulletin that modified the pump. Rings are one line in an overhaul, but we make no claim that they are the usual cause.
Do you quote injectors for the 200 Series V8 diesel?
Yes, as new units from UAE distributors and aftermarket lines, with grade and brand named. The 2007 engine has solenoid injectors and the Euro-5 engine piezoelectric ones, according to the club article, so send the VIN, the build month and the number on the old injector.
Can you supply a complete 1VD-FTV or a short block?
No. We export new parts only, so we do not supply complete engines, short blocks or cut-down front sections of any kind. We quote the new parts for the job by the list: gaskets, pistons and rings, bearings, injectors, chain parts and turbocharger parts.
How many pistons, injectors and head gaskets does a V8 list need?
Eight pistons with rings, eight injectors and two head gaskets, plus two turbochargers and two EGR valves on the twin-turbo 200 Series. A 70 Series with one turbocharger needs one. Tell us which truck you have and how many engines the list covers, and the quantities follow from that.
Is the V8 diesel sold in my country?
A model name cannot tell us. Wikipedia lists it for Saudi Arabia and South Africa among other markets and says it was dropped in some Middle East markets by 2012, while Toyota South Africa's Land Cruiser 79 page lists no V8 today. The engine code stamped on your truck is the only answer that counts.
