1KD-FTV and 2KD-FTV engine parts from Dubai for export

Both engines are four-cylinder, 16-valve turbo diesels with common-rail D-4D injection and an intercooled turbocharger, variable-nozzle on the 1KD-FTV. Wikipedia's KD engine article gives the 1KD-FTV as 2,982 cc with a 96 mm bore and 103 mm stroke, first used in the Land Cruiser Prado in July 2000. The 2KD-FTV followed in November 2001 at 2,494 cc, built on the older 2L engine, with a 92 mm bore and a 93.8 mm stroke.

That difference matters when you order. The article says the only major changes from the 1KD-FTV to the 2KD-FTV were bore and stroke, and the two bores differ by 4 mm, so pistons, rings and head gaskets cannot be swapped between them. The 2KD-FTV also changed during its life: its compression ratio fell from 18.5 to 17.4 to 1 in the 2005 update. A person matches every internal part to the code stamped on your block, not to the badge on the tailgate.

Toyota's own pages show why the demand sits abroad. Toyota UAE's 2026 Hilux page lists a 2.7 litre and a 4.0 litre engine, and Toyota said in June 2015 that the KD diesels would be gradually phased out for the GD family. A KD truck in a Gulf fleet is therefore an older truck, and its owner wants service and rebuild parts quoted by the list. Our research places the same engines in the Hilux, Prado and Hiace fleets of East Africa and Zimbabwe.

Kenya's registration record shows the scale of the Toyota fleet there: KRA data for the 22 months to October 2018 counted 8,110 Land Cruisers and 5,353 Hiaces among 97,105 Toyotas. The count gives no engine codes, but the Land Cruiser and Hiace are models Toyota fitted with KD diesels, so it sizes the fleet that may carry them. Each market below asks for a different mix, which is why one list never fits every buyer.

Both KD diesels time the camshaft by gears and a belt, according to a Toyota enthusiasts' engine review, and the belt kits sold by belt makers and parts retailers cover the 1KD-FTV and 2KD-FTV together. A typical listing names the belt, a hydraulic tensioner, idlers and seals. Because one listing spans both engines, a person still checks the kit against your VIN before quoting it.

Tell us whether the water pump is being replaced at the same time, and put the tensioner and idlers on the same list, so that a new belt does not run over worn pulleys. We found no Toyota statement of the replacement interval, so this page gives none; your workshop's schedule or the Toyota distributor in your country decides. A GD chain kit does not fit a KD diesel, because the two families are timed differently.

The KD engines inject through a common rail, and published pressure figures differ by source: Wikipedia gives up to 1,350 bar for the 1KD-FTV and up to 200 MPa for a 2005 Denso system on the 2KD-FTV, while the enthusiasts' review gives 32 to 160 MPa. Because the figures differ, we match injectors by the part number on your old unit and your VIN, never by engine size alone. The same review says early injectors were solenoid type and Euro-5 versions piezoelectric.

The review's fault-code list for the 1KD-FTV includes an EGR cooler bypass circuit, so engines built to later emissions standards carry an EGR cooler and valve. Workshop pages describe injectors and EGR as the parts that give trouble on these engines, but the pages we found are not Toyota documents, and we found no Toyota statement that ranks one part above another. We quote injectors, EGR parts and turbocharger cartridges as new units, with Denso the maker named on the 2KD-FTV's common-rail system.

Workshops and fleets order a KD overhaul as one list rather than line by line. The table sets out what each line needs from you before a person can quote it. Every line is a new part with its grade named, and we do not quote reconditioned units of any kind.

Oversize parts need measurements, not memory. For pistons, measure each cylinder across and along the engine near the top and near the bottom, and send every reading with the engine code; for bearings, send the journal diameters. We will not quote an oversize set on a guess, because a wrong size costs a second collection in Dubai.

This page quotes no prices, and a person quotes each KD line on WhatsApp. The ladder we measured in Dubai on 3 November 2026, including 5% VAT, put genuine Toyota parts at about 1.5 times the OE-brand equivalent and 1.7 to 1.9 times quality aftermarket. Treat that as a planning ratio drawn from other Toyota parts, never as a quote for a KD part.

Grade matters most where fakes circulate. A June 2025 newspaper infographic puts counterfeit prevalence for car parts in Kenya at 21%, the highest of any category it showed, and the word genuine alone proves little: one budget brake pad listing in Dubai describes itself as genuine quality. Ask for photographs of the part and its box with the part numbers visible, and compare them with the numbers on your old unit before you pay.

Send the engine code stamped on the block, the VIN, the model and year of the truck and the country it works in. Add the old part's number or a photograph of it, and the measured bore or journal sizes for any oversize or undersize line. If you know only the truck, say whether it is a Hilux, Prado, Hiace or Fortuner and whether the engine is a 3.0 or a 2.5 litre.
