Isuzu 4JJ1 and 4HK1 diesel engine parts from Dubai for export

Isuzu's engine names change faster than its truck names, and the code decides which kit fits. Wikipedia's engine list gives the 4JJ1 as a 2,999 cc, 16-valve double overhead cam diesel and the 4HK1 as a 5,193 cc turbo diesel with a 115 mm bore and 125 mm stroke. Isuzu East Africa's product pages, read on 3 November 2026, show a 4JJ1-TC of 3,000 cc in the NMR85 bus and a 4HL1-TCS of 4,778 cc in the NQR81 bus.

Wikipedia's D-Max article gives the first D-Max a 4JJ1-TC of 146 PS from 2004, a 4JJ1-TCX with a variable-geometry turbo from 2006, and a second generation from 2011 rated at 132 kW and 380 Nm. For the third generation it says the engine was renamed 4JJ3-TCX and gained 10 kW and 70 Nm, with a double-scissor timing gear. A truck built from 2019 may therefore carry a code that a 4JJ1 list does not cover, and an NQR can carry a 4HK1 or a 4HL1.

Kenya is where Isuzu's numbers are largest. Business Daily reported on 19 January 2026 that Isuzu sold 6,494 new vehicles in 2025, up 20.48%, for a 47.81% share of the 13,583 recorded by the Kenya Motor Industry Association. BestSellingCarsBlog's 2024 write-up had the D-Max first with 21.4% and two Isuzu models in the top five, the D-Max and the N-Series. Isuzu's own Kenyan range runs from the D-Max pickup to 25 and 33 seat N-series buses and on to larger F-series buses.

In Uganda, an import agent's list of popular vehicles names the Hiace, Land Cruiser Prado, Mitsubishi Canter and Isuzu Elf, according to AAA Japan, which sells to that market; BestSellingCarsBlog's 2025 headline gives the Hilux and Land Cruiser 70 a combined 49.7% of Uganda's new sales. Wikipedia says the Elf was marketed in the United States as the NPR, so the two names belong to one family. Our reading of Tanzania is Toyota pickups plus Isuzu and Fuso trucks, though no source counts them.

Saudi fleets are the fourth lane. The 2025 ranking placed Isuzu sixth among brands and the N-Series tenth among models, and Saudi law bans used car parts other than certified remanufactured main units, so injectors, EGR valves and chain kits reach Saudi fleets as new parts. A Tanzania Bureau of Standards notice, which we have seen only as a summary, says used spare parts from the UAE need pre-shipment inspection from 21 June 2026; it concerns used parts, not new ones.

Common-rail injectors are the costliest wear lines on both engines, and retail listings show the cross-reference that matters on a trade list: Denso numbers beginning 095000 paired with Isuzu numbers beginning 8-9. One listing for the 4JJ1 and 4JK1 pairs Denso 095000-6993 with Isuzu 8-98011605-1, and another pairs 095000-6363 with the 4HK1 and 6HK1. Sellers also note that each new common-rail injector has its code written to the ECU after fitting, which is workshop work at the buyer's end.

On the 4JJ1 the EGR valve recirculates part of the exhaust into the intake to cut emissions. AutoGuru's D-Max repair page names carbon build-up as a failure cause and suggests cleaning before replacement, and a retail listing gives Isuzu number 8-98013-911-1 for the 2007 to 2012 D-Max with the 4JJ1. One retail guide adds that a clogged valve can start in the cooler or the exhaust pipes, so a valve line often travels with a cooler question.

Timing parts differ by engine. Retail listings for the 4JJ1 are timing chain kits and not belt kits, which fits a chain-driven engine, and Wikipedia's note on the third-generation 4JJ3 mentions a double-scissor timing gear, so the newest engine's drive is not the older one's. We found no maker document stating the 4HK1's camshaft drive or its EGR parts, so those lines are quoted by engine number after a person has checked them.

We measured no Isuzu price on 3 November 2026, so we publish no Isuzu ladder. The only Dubai ladders we read were for Toyota parts, and they put genuine at about 1.5 times an OE-brand part and up to 1.9 times a good aftermarket one. We do not claim Isuzu lines follow them. Each Isuzu line is quoted from its own number with the grade named, and a person says when a part comes from the carmaker's supply or from an independent maker.

The risk is counterfeit parts, not only price. Kenya's Anti-Counterfeit Authority, in a 2025 report described by The Star on 24 June 2025, names brake pads, spark plugs and engine parts among the categories where fakes have risen sharply. An injector costs far more per piece than a gasket, so a wrong or fake one costs more. Expect a brand, a number and a photograph for each injector line.

Isuzu East Africa's own parts centre, which The Star said on 17 June 2026 was due to finish by the end of 2026, will give Nairobi buyers a local channel. That article did not say whether the centre will stock genuine parts. A fair comparison sets a Dubai quote beside the local price for the same part number and the same grade.

The D-Max is built in many plants and sold in right- and left-hand drive. Wikipedia lists second-generation assembly in Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Africa, Turkey, China, India, Pakistan, Ecuador and Egypt, among others. Engine internals, injectors, EGR parts and chain kits are quoted by engine code and part number, and steering side is not a factor in them. A buyer in Nairobi with a right-hand-drive truck and one in Riyadh with a left-hand-drive truck can share a list if they carry the same code.

Emission level is the spec that does matter. Isuzu East Africa lists the NQR81 as Euro IV, and two trucks with the same engine size but different emission standards can need different EGR and injector numbers. Send the standard if the plate or the brochure shows it, and say which market the truck was first sold in, because a truck moved from one market to another keeps its original parts.

Send the engine code from the plate: 4JJ1-TC, 4JJ1-TCX, 4JJ3-TCX, 4HK1 or 4HL1. Add the truck's model code, such as NMR85 or NQR81, the year, and the emission level if you know it. Photograph the numbers on the old injectors, the EGR valve and the chain kit, because those numbers settle the cross-reference faster than a description does.

Count per engine. Both the 4JJ1 and the 4HK1 are four-cylinder engines, so a list for twelve trucks asks for forty-eight injectors, twelve gasket sets and twelve timing kits.
