New ECUs, sensors and modules from Dubai, quoted by VIN and part number

Updated

The quick answer

We quote new engine and body control modules and sensors for export by VIN and part number only, because a module is matched to the car's market, engine and immobiliser. Parts are new genuine or OE-brand, and a person quotes on WhatsApp once the VIN and the label number agree. Integrated circuits are on the Russia high-priority list, so these parts are never quoted for onward shipment to refused destinations.

Key facts

  • Toyota service bulletin S-SB-0007-13, dated 6 February 2013, says a replaced main body ECU needs the immobiliser key codes registered with Techstream software.
  • The UK's Russia common high priority list, last updated 8 August 2024, puts integrated circuits (HS 8542.31 to 8542.39) in Tier 1.
  • Bosch calibrates an air mass meter's sensor element and housing as one complete unit and says it supplies only complete assemblies to the aftermarket.
  • NTK says crankshaft sensors use either the inductive or the Hall principle and cannot be interchanged.
  • Airbag modules, seat-belt pretensioners and batteries are outside our export quotes, because air carriers treat many of them as dangerous goods.
  • Electrical and electronic lines, ECUs and sensors among them, are among the most requested items in the export requests we receive from West Africa and the Caucasus.

Which ECUs, sensors and modules do we quote for export?

Three kinds of part sit in this family. Control modules cover the engine control unit, transmission control unit, ABS and stability module, body control module and immobiliser unit. Sensors cover air mass, oxygen, crankshaft and camshaft, knock, wheel speed and coolant temperature. The third kind is the pairing: a module and the sensor that feeds it are often ordered together. Wiring harnesses, relays and connectors are not part of this page.

Every line is new. We do not quote repaired, reflashed or remanufactured modules, and a line that cannot be quoted new is left off the list. The table shows what decides the match for each kind of part and where the usual trap is, so a buyer knows what to look for on the old part before writing.

What decides the match, by kind of part
PartWhat decides the matchThe usual trap
Engine control unitVIN, engine code and the number on the module's labelMarket coding and immobiliser pairing
Body control moduleVIN and label numberKey registration after fitting, as in Toyota's bulletin

Why are ECUs quoted by VIN and part number only?

A control unit is not a bolt-on part. It carries software written for one engine, one emissions standard and one market, and it often has to agree with the car's keys. Toyota's own service bulletin S-SB-0007-13, dated 6 February 2013 and written for the 2013 FR-S sold in the United States, says that when the main body ECU is replaced a procedure must be followed to complete the registration of the immobiliser key codes, with Techstream software. It concerns one car, and we do not claim every make works the same way. It does show why the VIN matters.

Region coding is the trade's word for this. Our research notes list ECUs and immobiliser units as market-coded and as parts that do not simply cross from a Gulf-market car to a car built for another market. That is analyst judgement drawn from owner forums, not a maker's statement, so we treat the label number and the VIN as the only evidence and give the notes no weight in a quote.

A quote therefore carries two things you can check: the part number printed on the module's own label, and the VIN it was matched to. If either cannot be matched we decline the line rather than guess. A module that is wrong for the car costs you a second trip through your cargo agent, and a person on WhatsApp is cheaper than that.

What do you send, and what happens after the part arrives?

Send the 17-character VIN or, for a car built for the Japanese market, the short chassis number from the plate. Add the engine code, the gearbox code if it is a transmission module, and the month and year of build. Then photograph the old module's label so the full number is readable, and add the country and the grade you want. Several modules and sensors in one message save a round of questions.

Our quote covers the part. If the car's maker needs the new module registered to the keys or coded to the vehicle, as Toyota's bulletin describes, that work is done by a workshop in your country with the maker's own tool. Ask your workshop what the car needs before you order, and tell us the answer so that the line is quoted with it in mind.

A fault code is not an order. Bosch's technical hotline describes a car whose oxygen sensor was replaced and still read signal too low, because the cause lay elsewhere in engine management. A code names a circuit, not a part, so when you quote us a code, tell us what your workshop found as well.

Why do integrated circuits mean a stricter rule on where parts go?

The common high priority items list, shared by the EU, UK, US and Japan for Russia, names integrated circuits, also called microelectronics, in its Tier 1, covering HS 8542.31 to 8542.39. The UK's copy of the page, last updated 8 August 2024, says tiers one and two hold circuits of the highest concern for Russian weapons systems. A control module is a box built round such circuits.

Other electronics near our parts appear lower on the same list: hybrid inverters and DC converters (HS 8504.40), connectors and switching apparatus (8536), reversing cameras (8525.89), navigation head units (8526.91) and antennas (8529.10). The US list for Russia and Belarus is wider still, naming control panels (8537) and wiring (8544) beside the engine and body headings. How each item is classified is a question for your clearing agent.

Our policy follows from that. We do not supply Russia, Belarus or any other refused destination, and we do not quote an ECU, sensor or module for onward shipment to one. A person asks where the part will be fitted before a module is quoted, and we do not quote a line when the answer points to a refused destination. We do not sell loose boards or chips at all, only complete modules and sensors for a named vehicle.

Genuine, OE-brand or aftermarket for ECUs and sensors

For control modules the honest answer is that new stock is mostly genuine: the module is made by or for the carmaker and sold in its box. We hold no measured price ladder for ECUs. Our one price check, on 3 November 2026, covered brake pads and a water pump. So ECU prices are given per VIN on the quote and never from a table.

For sensors the middle grade exists. Bosch's data sheet describes its air mass meter as an original equipment product, calibrated with its housing as a complete unit, and says it supplies only complete assemblies to the aftermarket. Denso, which Wikipedia describes as a Toyota Group company, and NTK, the sensor range of NGK, sell oxygen and speed sensors in the same OE-brand sense. The grade and the brand are named on every line.

Who asks for these parts, and for which cars?

In the export requests we receive, ECUs, sensors, keys and other electrical items rank high among the lines asked for in West and Central Africa and in the Caucasus. The West African requests are mostly for Toyotas such as the RAV4, Fortuner, Yaris, Land Cruiser 200 and Hilux. Azerbaijan requests asked for ECU, ABS and body parts for Chevrolet, GMC, Mercedes and Toyota Prius models. These are enquiries, and a person checks each against the VIN.

Earlier research on East African requests found ECUs and immobilisers heading the list there too. Our notes list region-coded ECUs and immobilisers among the parts that do not simply cross from left-hand-drive to right-hand-drive vehicles. So the steering side of your vehicle matters less than its market and its VIN, and a module for a right-hand-drive Hilux is never assumed to match a Gulf VIN.

Who you are buying from

Questions buyers ask

Can you quote an ECU from the part number alone?
Not for export. The part number tells us what the label says, and the VIN tells us the car the module must agree with. Send both, with a photo of the label, and a person checks them against each other before a line is quoted.
Will a new ECU work in my car as soon as it is fitted?
Not always. Toyota's 2013 bulletin shows a replaced body ECU needing its immobiliser key codes registered with Techstream. If your car's maker needs coding or key registration, a workshop in your country does it with the maker's tool. Ask before you order.
Why do you ask where the car or part is going?
Integrated circuits are on the Russia common high priority list, and we do not supply Russia, Belarus or any other refused destination. A person asks where the part will be fitted so that no module is quoted for onward shipment to one of them.
Do you sell loose circuit boards or chips?
No. We quote complete new modules and sensors for a named vehicle, by VIN and part number. Loose circuit boards and chips are the items the Russia high priority list is aimed at, and they are not part of what we export.
Do you quote repaired or remanufactured ECUs?
No. Easy Auto exports new parts only, so repaired, reflashed and remanufactured modules are not quoted. If a module cannot be found new, the line is left off the list and a person tells you on WhatsApp.
Are there OE-brand or aftermarket versions of control modules?
Control modules are mostly a genuine product. Sensors have OE-brand and quality aftermarket versions, and each line names the brand and the grade. Where a module has no new version we can quote, we say so instead of offering a look-alike.
Do airbag control modules count as ECUs?
They are modules, but we do not quote airbag modules or seat-belt pretensioners for export, because air carriers treat many of them as dangerous goods. Engine, transmission, ABS, body and immobiliser modules are quoted, by VIN and part number.
