Buying car parts from Dubai for Iraq
Updated
The quick answer
Buyers in Iraq can get car parts from UAE stock and the Sharjah and Dubai parts markets by sending the part, its number or the VIN on WhatsApp; a person replies with a quote. Your own cargo agent collects in Dubai and moves the parts on, by sea to Umm Qasr or by road through Jordan, because Easy Auto does not ship abroad. Iraq changed its customs rules in 2026, so your importer's clearing agent should confirm the duty, the certificate and any used-part conditions before you order.
Key facts

- From 1 October 2026 importers pay estimated duty and a 3 percent tax deposit through ASYCUDA before any money is sent abroad to a supplier.
- Vehicle spare parts are regulated products: since 1 January 2020 each consignment must carry a Certificate of Conformity from an approved inspection body.

Why Iraq is the second-largest lane for UAE parts
Iraq follows Saudi Arabia in the trade data. United Nations Comtrade figures, mirrored by TrendEconomy, show UAE exports of parts and accessories for motor vehicles to Iraq of USD 244 million in 2023, 6.24 percent of the UAE's USD 3.92 billion total in that category. TradingEconomics shows the figure at USD 270.58 million in 2024, an increase of about 11 percent. Iraqi numbers are among the more frequent export enquiries on our own parts desk as well.
The parts trade sits on top of a far larger flow of vehicles. In 2024 the UAE exported USD 5.19 billion of vehicles and parts to Iraq in the same TradingEconomics series, and motor cars alone were USD 4.03 billion of it. Cars that arrive in that volume keep needing parts for years afterwards. That is the logic of this lane, although the trade data do not say which cars were sold, or how many were new.
New-car data show only part of the picture, because so many cars arrive second-hand, but they point at the makes to expect. Best Selling Cars Blog counted 160,737 new vehicles in Iraq in 2025. Kia was first with 28 percent and Toyota second with 20.7 percent, followed by Nissan, MG and Hyundai. The Kia Frontier pickup took 11.1 percent of the market and the Toyota Hilux 8.7 percent, so pickups and compact Korean and Japanese cars are the models to expect in a parts request.
How parts get from Dubai to Iraq
Easy Auto does not ship abroad. A part is quoted on WhatsApp, and your own cargo agent or forwarder collects it in Dubai. For Iraq there are three routes to weigh: sea to Umm Qasr, road through Jordan, or air. We do not set or promise transit times, because the shipping line, the border and the paperwork decide them, and your forwarder quotes them for your booking.
Umm Qasr is Iraq's deep-water port, about 57 km south of Basra on the Khawr az-Zubayr waterway and next to the Kuwait border. Sea freight suits engines, gearboxes and mixed pallets, where weight would make air freight expensive, and it is the natural entry for a buyer in Basra or the south. A buyer in Baghdad or further north may prefer the road, depending on the load and the agent's own routes.
The overland route runs through Jordan. Aqaba is Jordan's only seaport, and the Karameh crossing, called Turaibil on the Iraqi side, is the road link between the two countries, about 575 km from Baghdad. The US Commerce Department describes Jordan as a platform for firms seeking access to the Iraqi market. A forwarder arranges the transit and the border paperwork on each leg, so ask for the route in writing before you pay for parts.
Courier is the costly choice for anything heavy. DHL Express's 2026 UAE rate guide places Iraq in Zone 3, and the list prices below are before fuel surcharge, duty and tax, so a 12 kg parcel costs about half as much again as the same parcel to Saudi Arabia.
| Parcel weight | DHL Zone 3 price (AED) |
|---|---|
| 5 kg | 1,205.93 |
| 10 kg | 1,779.43 |
| 12 kg | 1,980.43 |
| 20 kg | 2,928.79 |
What Iraq charges, and what changed in 2026
Iraq's cabinet approved Decision 957 in October 2025, and from early 2026 customs duty is worked out by tariff classification under Customs Tariff Law No. 22 of 2010, replacing the old fixed fee per container. Iraq Business News reported the new rules at Umm Qasr on 8 January 2026: duty by HS code, taxes collected at ports and border crossings, and invoices that must describe the goods in detail with correct HS codes. Tell your agent the exact part, not just the category.
No single duty rate for car parts is published here, because the sources we read disagree. Shafaq News reported in February 2026 that the decision applies rates from 0.5 to 30 percent across brackets, and in August 2026 quoted a Baghdad Chamber of Commerce spokesperson saying duties can reach 30, 35 or even 40 percent on some goods, with rates starting at 5 percent. The rate for your part is the tariff line's rate on the day of clearance, which your clearing agent reads.
The decision is also contested. Critics argue that a cabinet cannot impose taxes without a law, members of parliament were gathering signatures to cancel it in February 2026, and Shafaq described the dispute as unresolved. Treat any figure as a snapshot and ask your agent for the rate on the day you order.
A second change reaches the importer's bank. Shafaq News reported on 24 August 2026 that the cabinet approved, on 18 August, an advance customs payment system starting 1 October 2026: importers deposit funds with a licensed bank, then pay estimated duty and a 3 percent tax deposit through ASYCUDA before money is sent abroad. Ask your importer how that changes the timing of your order. A person on our parts desk confirms how to pay on WhatsApp.
| Change | Date | What it means for the order |
|---|---|---|
| Certificate of Conformity on regulated goods, vehicle spare parts included | From 1 January 2020 | Each consignment needs a certificate from an approved inspection body |
| Import licence ended for used vehicle spare parts | 23 July 2025 | Ask your agent what conditions still apply on arrival |
| Duty by tariff classification under Decision 957 | Early 2026 | The invoice needs a full description and the correct HS code |
| Advance customs payment through ASYCUDA | From 1 October 2026 | The importer settles estimated duty before funds go abroad |
Used parts and the conformity certificate
Iraq's rules on used parts have moved more than once. A restricted-goods list published by a UAE shipping line in May 2025 showed used spare parts allowed only with an import licence. Global Trade Alert then recorded that on 23 July 2025 the Iraqi Council of Ministers announced an end to the licence requirement for used vehicle spare parts at federal border crossings. Ask your clearing agent whether a used engine or gearbox needs any certificate or inspection on arrival, and get the answer in writing.
Vehicle spare parts are also on the list of regulated products in Iraq's Conformity Assessment Programme. From 1 January 2020 exporters and importers trading with Iraq must have goods pre-inspected and tested, and Intertek, one of the approved bodies, says every consignment containing regulated products must be accompanied by a Certificate of Conformity. The sources we read do not say whether used parts fall inside the programme, so your agent has to confirm that too.
The importer's side arranges the inspection and the certificate, not us. What we can do is state the make, model, year, part number and condition, new, used, rebuilt or aftermarket, in the quote, so the inspector's paperwork matches what is in the box. Leave time for the inspection before the load is booked, because a consignment without the certificate cannot clear.
What we will and will not supply on an Iraq order
We supply parts for vehicles that stay in Iraq. We do not supply parts for onward movement to any destination we refuse to serve, and we do not quote around a consignee we cannot identify. A person on the parts desk may ask for the name of the consignee, the vehicle details and the name of your cargo agent before quoting, and may decline a request that does not fit.
That is a rule about our own supply, not a judgement of any one buyer. A garage, a dealer or a parts shop in Baghdad, Basra or Erbil that wants parts for cars on Iraqi roads will find the process exactly as described on this page.
Which parts suit the Iraq lane, and what to send us
Engines, gearboxes and half-cut front sections fit a container or a shared sea load, where the cost of moving weight is spread across a consignment. Compact high-value items such as control units, headlamps and clusters suit air freight when speed matters. A single bulky panel or exhaust is often cheaper from a local supplier, because freight can exceed its price. For a shop that restocks regularly, the trader route consolidates parts from several UAE suppliers in Dubai.
In your first WhatsApp message give the city, the make, model and year, the VIN or a photo of the registration card, a photo of the old part and its number. Say Iraq, and say whether you want new, used, rebuilt or aftermarket. Name your cargo agent in Dubai if you have one, and say whether the load is likely to go by sea or road. A person replies with a quote and confirms how to pay.
UAE parts shops that export
These shops are here because our record of each one lists exporting, sending parts outside the UAE, among what it offers. It is a record of what they told us or published, not a check that they send parts to Iraq today or of what is on the shelf, and none of them has paid to be here. Ask how the part reaches you, and who handles the export paperwork, before you pay.

Questions buyers ask
- Does Iraq allow used car parts from Dubai?
- Iraq's cabinet announced on 23 July 2025 that the import licence for used vehicle spare parts at federal border crossings was lifted, according to Global Trade Alert. Earlier lists required a licence. Conditions have changed more than once, so ask your Iraqi clearing agent for the current rule in writing before ordering a used engine or gearbox.
- Do I need a Certificate of Conformity for car parts shipped to Iraq?
- Vehicle spare parts are regulated products under Iraq's Conformity Assessment Programme, and since 1 January 2020 each consignment of them must carry a Certificate of Conformity from an approved inspection body. Your importer's agent books the inspection. Ask whether used parts fall inside the programme, because the sources we read do not say.
- What customs duty will I pay on car parts in Iraq?
- We cannot give one rate. Iraq has applied duty by tariff classification since early 2026, and press reports quote ranges from 0.5 to 30 percent, with some goods higher. The rule is also contested. Your clearing agent reads the rate for each part's tariff line and tells you the figure on the day you order.
- Is it better to send parts to Iraq by sea or through Jordan?
- It depends on the load and where in Iraq it is going. Umm Qasr is the sea port near Basra, and Jordan offers a road link to Baghdad through the Karameh crossing. Your forwarder knows which route has space, and which gives the shorter wait for your cargo. We do not set routes or times.
- Does Easy Auto deliver car parts to Baghdad or Basra?
- No. Easy Auto does not ship abroad. A person quotes the part on WhatsApp, and your cargo agent or forwarder collects it in Dubai and carries it on. In Iraq the buyer or the importer of record handles customs, the conformity certificate and any duty on arrival.
- How do I pay for car parts from Dubai if I am in Iraq?
- A person confirms how to pay on WhatsApp once you have a quote. We do not list payment methods on this page. Iraq's advance customs payment system started on 1 October 2026 and changes the order of steps on the importer's side, so ask your importer how it affects timing.
- Which cars can you find parts for in Iraq?
- Kia and Toyota lead Iraq's new-vehicle sales, with the Kia Frontier and Toyota Hilux the top two models in 2025, and Nissan, MG and Hyundai behind them. The parts desk quotes for Japanese, Korean, German and American makes. Send the VIN so the part is matched to your exact engine and trim.
