New clutch and transmission parts from Dubai for export

Updated

The quick answer

We quote new clutch kits (cover, disc and release bearing), flywheels, gearbox internals, automatic-transmission filter kits and solenoids, CV joints and drive shafts, each graded Genuine, OE-brand or Quality aftermarket. Send the VIN and the gearbox code and a person quotes the list on WhatsApp for collection in Dubai by your cargo agent. We do not supply used or rebuilt gearboxes, and gearbox oil is not quoted.

Key facts

  • The UAE reported US$142.5 million of clutch exports under HS 8708.93, US$64.3 million of gearboxes under 8708.40 and US$35.7 million of drive axles under 8708.50 in 2023.
  • JETRO put Japan at 45% of the UAE's 2022 clutch imports, second only to steering among the lines it listed, and at 17% of gearbox imports.
  • Press reports of Kenya's 2019 list of 17 used wear parts name clutch plates, pressure plates and clutch cables, so buyers there order these lines new.
  • Mauritius prohibits second-hand clutches and clutch parts among 18 groups of used parts, so buyers there order new.
  • Kenya puts clutch, gearbox and drive-axle parts under heading 8708 in the 10% duty band, before a 2.5% fee, a 2% levy and 16% VAT.
  • Exedy was founded in Osaka in 1950; its New Zealand arm lists OE replacement clutch kits for passenger, light commercial and Japanese commercial vehicles.
  • US controls for Russia and Belarus name headings 8708.40, 8708.50, 8708.93 and 8483; we do not supply any refused destination.

What goes into a clutch and transmission order?

A clutch and transmission list covers the parts that carry the engine's power to the wheels: clutch kits made of a cover, a disc and a release bearing; flywheels; the internals of a manual gearbox; filter kits and solenoids for an automatic; and CV joints and drive shafts. It is a list for the vehicle you already have. UAE customs figures show the scale. In 2023 the UAE reported exporting US$142.5 million of clutches under HS 8708.93, US$64.3 million of gearboxes under 8708.40 and US$35.7 million of drive axles under 8708.50, plus US$274.2 million of shafts and gears under heading 8483.

Each of those headings was exported at roughly half to two-thirds of what the UAE imported, our arithmetic from the same table, which suggests Gulf workshops keep a large share for themselves. JETRO's 2022 figures give Japan 45% of the UAE's clutch imports, second only to steering among the lines it listed, but only 17% of gearbox imports. The clutch stock Dubai holds is therefore largely Japanese, while gearbox parts come from a wider mix of makers.

Comtrade does not separate new from second-hand units, and the gearbox and drive-axle headings include whole units, so these figures give a sense of scale and nothing more. We quote only new parts. We do not supply used or rebuilt gearboxes, and no line on this page is a complete gearbox; a list here is for the box you already own.

Why do clutch kits go out as a set?

A clutch is quoted as one kit of three parts: the cover that clamps the disc, the disc itself and the release bearing. We keep all three on one fitment number and one grade so that nothing in the box was matched separately. A flywheel is its own line, quoted by number, because it is checked or replaced at the same visit and is not always part of the kit.

Buyers in East Africa treat clutches as a fleet line. Our research notes list clutches beside engine kits, injectors, brake drums and turbos in the Isuzu N-series and F-series truck basket for Kenya and Uganda, and a May 2026 Ghanaian trade article names clutch kits among the fast movers in a mixed container. Both are directional evidence, the second a single article, and neither is a measured share.

The legal side points the same way. Kenya's reported 2019 list of 17 used wear parts names clutch plates, pressure plates and clutch cables, and Mauritius prohibits second-hand clutches and clutch parts among 18 groups. Zimbabwe's CBCA notice covers heading 87.08 with no new or used split once a consignment passes US$1,000 FOB. Kenya puts clutches, gearboxes and drive axles in the 10% band, about 32.8% of CIF value with the fee, levy and VAT, our arithmetic.

Which brands do we name for clutches and gearbox parts?

Genuine is the carmaker's own part in its own box. OE-brand is a maker that also supplies the carmaker. Two Japanese names fit that label on the sources we read. Exedy was founded in Osaka in 1950, and its New Zealand arm says it became a clutch supplier to carmakers around the world. Aisin is a Toyota Group company, and Wikipedia's list of Toyota transmissions credits Aisin companies with building many of Toyota's own gearboxes, among them the manual R, RA, RC, W and G series and the automatic A series.

That arm also sells Aisin-branded parts and describes Aisin as a separate OE manufacturer, so we quote the two under their own names. Sachs and LuK are the German clutch names buyers ask for. Sachs belongs to ZF, which bought Mannesmann Sachs in 2001; LuK belongs to Schaeffler, whose founding group INA took over LuK in 1999. Whether a Sachs or LuK line counts as OE-brand depends on whether that maker supplies the carmaker for that model, so we class it after checking the number and say which grade it is.

We priced no clutch or gearbox part in Dubai. The only ladder we measured covers other parts: on 3 November 2026 a genuine Toyota 1GR-FE water pump listed at AED 397 against AED 214 and AED 229 for two aftermarket pumps, with 5% VAT included. A clutch kit sits in the same three tiers, but a person quotes each kit by its number, and the useful habit is to ask for two grades on one line and compare them.

Why is a gearbox part quoted by code and VIN?

Toyota alone uses several families of gearbox codes. Wikipedia's list names manual R-series boxes for trucks, six-speed RA and RC series, W and G series, and automatic AB, AC, A6 and A7 series. We do not guess which one a truck carries. Send the VIN and the gearbox code from the plate, add the engine code and the build month, and a person matches each line to that code before it is quoted.

Internals are quoted as parts of the box you already own: bearings, seal and gasket kits, and gear and synchroniser sets where the maker lists them separately. We do not supply used or rebuilt gearboxes, and a complete replacement gearbox is not on this page's list. If a box is beyond repair, the honest answer from us is that we export the parts and not the unit, and the same rule holds for engines.

What does an automatic-transmission filter and solenoid order hold?

An automatic's service parts are the filter and its gasket, the pan seal and the solenoids on the valve body. We quote filter kits and solenoids by gearbox code. Send the code from the plate, a photograph of the old solenoid and its plug, and the engine code and VIN, so that each solenoid is matched to the box it came from and not to the vehicle's badge.

Gearbox oil is a fluid, and fluids and aerosols are excluded from export quotes. A filter kit travels without its fluid, and your fitter buys the oil locally to the maker's specification for that gearbox. Ask the fitter to check the grade against the code on the plate before filling, since the quote cannot do that for you.

Do CV joints and drive shafts fit both steering sides?

Our research notes treat axles, hubs, CV joints and drive shafts as the same part whichever side the car is driven from, and clutch kits, gearbox internals and differentials likewise. That is analyst judgement from forum evidence with no maker catalogue behind it, so every line is still matched by VIN and number. A CV joint is quoted as a joint, a boot kit or a complete shaft, and the line says which.

The exceptions sit in the cab, not the driveline. Pedal boxes and pedals are among the side-specific parts, as a Fiat forum thread and one specialist's conversion kit both indicate. Those lines are quoted by number only, with the steering side stated, and a person tells you if the right-hand number cannot be had new.

Which destinations are outside the driveline list?

US export controls on Russia and Belarus name gearboxes under 8708.40, drive axles under 8708.50, clutches under 8708.93 and the transmission shafts and gears of heading 8483, along with most of chapter 87. Russia, Belarus and every other refused destination are outside what we supply, and that includes driveline parts bound there later. A person asks where the vehicles run before a list is priced.

How is a driveline order packed, and what do you send?

Driveline lines are heavy per piece. Flywheels, drive shafts and gear sets sit beside light clutch discs and filter kits, so pack the heavy items in their own cartons and keep each clutch kit in its maker's box, which holds the cover, disc and bearing together. Ask your agent for its volume divisor, since a long drive shaft bills by size as much as by weight.

For each vehicle send the VIN, engine code, gearbox code and build month. For a clutch kit add the diameter of the old disc and its number of splines, with a photograph of the old cover; for CV joints, the position and a photograph of the spline end. The reply gives each line's grade, brand and number, flags anything unavailable at your quantity, and a person confirms how to pay in the same chat.

Questions buyers ask

Do you sell used or rebuilt gearboxes?
No. Easy Auto exports new parts only, so we supply no used, rebuilt or remanufactured gearboxes and no half-cuts. We quote new parts for the gearbox you already own: clutch kits, flywheels, bearings, seal kits, filter kits, solenoids, CV joints and drive shafts, each graded Genuine, OE-brand or Quality aftermarket.
What do you need to quote a clutch kit?
The VIN, the engine code, the gearbox code from the plate and the build month, plus the diameter of the old disc, its number of splines and a photograph of the old cover. With those, a person can match the cover, disc and release bearing to one fitment number and name the grade and brand of the kit.
Does Kenya allow used clutch plates and pressure plates?
Press reports of KEBS's 2019 list of 17 categories name clutch plates, pressure plates and clutch cables as parts that may not be imported used, though KEBS said anything outside the list is legal and we found no current version. New clutch kits are outside the ban but need a KEBS certificate of conformity before shipment.
Can the automatic filter kit come with gearbox oil?
No. Gearbox oil is a fluid, and we leave fluids and aerosols out of export quotes. The kit travels without it, and your fitter buys oil locally to the maker's specification for the gearbox code. Check the grade against the plate before filling, because a wrong fluid is a fault you only find after the work.
Are Exedy and Aisin the same company?
Our sources treat them as separate makers: Exedy's New Zealand arm sells Aisin-branded parts and describes Aisin as a separate OE manufacturer. Both are Japanese, and we quote each under its own name and grade. Which fits your car is a part-number question, checked against your VIN.
Do CV joints and drive shafts differ between left- and right-hand drive?
Our notes treat them as the same part on either side, but that rests on analyst judgement and forum evidence, so we match each line by VIN and number. Pedal boxes and pedals are the side-specific items near this family, and those are quoted by number only, with the steering side stated.
Will you quote gearbox parts for any destination?
No. US controls for Russia and Belarus name gearboxes, drive axles, clutches and transmission shafts, and we do not supply those destinations or any other refused one, nor goods bound there later. A person asks where the vehicles run before a driveline list is priced, and the answer has to hold together.
How big must a clutch order be?
We quote export orders by the list at trade quantities, not for one or two pieces. A fleet list of clutch kits, flywheels and CV joints across several trucks is the kind we price. One kit on its own is not, and a person tells you on WhatsApp if a list is too small.
