Buying car parts from Dubai for Djibouti
Updated
The quick answer
Djibouti is a small, port-led market of about 1.1 million people, and parts for it leave Dubai through your own cargo agent. Send the vehicle and the part on WhatsApp, a person quotes what UAE stock and the Sharjah and Dubai yards hold, and your agent collects in Dubai and books the freight. Djibouti duty and tax are settled by your clearing agent on arrival and are never part of our quote.
Key facts
- Djibouti has about 1.1 million people, and its economy is driven by port operations and logistics (World Bank, read 7 October 2026).
- The state ports and free zones authority lists five port facilities and three free zones on its own site, read 7 October 2026.
- The UAE reported USD 67.6 million of vehicle parts and USD 22 million of goods vehicles exported to Djibouti in 2024 (UN Comtrade via TradingEconomics).
- A Deira cargo agent's published terms say to check whether a quote includes destination duty, taxes, port charges and final delivery.
- Container lines were still restoring Red Sea services in September 2026, so sailings and surcharges move (FreightWaves, 15 September 2026).
- Duty and tax are set by Djibouti Customs when your clearing agent files; we publish none and our quote excludes them.
- We do not ship to Djibouti, name a delivery time or publish a price list: a person quotes each request on WhatsApp.
- This page covers goods that clear customs in Djibouti itself; we arrange no onward transit to any other country.

Who buys car parts from Dubai for Djibouti?
Djibouti is small. The World Bank puts its population at about 1.1 million and describes an economy carried by port operations, logistics and related trade, at the southern entrance to the Red Sea. The people with a reason to buy parts in the UAE are workshops, transport and logistics operators and private owners. Whichever you are, the route is the same, and a small market means short orders: usually one engine, one gearbox or one electrical part rather than a pallet.
The UAE's own trade statistics show that parts and commercial vehicles do move to Djibouti. The table gives the lines the UAE reported for 2024. We list the passenger-car line only for completeness, because we handle parts and nothing else.
A trade statistic records the destination the exporter declares, not where a part is finally fitted, and it does not separate used from new. Read the table as a sign that parts move on this lane, not as a measure of local demand or of what any one buyer needs.
| Line | 2024 value in USD | Relevance to this page |
|---|---|---|
| Parts and accessories of motor vehicles | 67.60 million | The line this page is about |
| Motor vehicles for transport of goods | 21.98 million | Trucks and pickups, which need the same mechanical parts |
| Passenger cars | 141.97 million | Whole vehicles; outside what we handle |
How a part gets from Dubai to Djibouti
You choose the cargo agent; we do not. The agent collects the quoted part in Dubai, books it onto a sea or air service, and the shipment arrives at a Djibouti port or the airport, where your clearing agent takes over. At least one Deira cargo agent lists Djibouti among the African destinations it serves and quotes by weight or volume.
Djibouti's state authority lists five port facilities: SGTD, formerly the Doraleh Container Terminal, the Doraleh Multipurpose Port, the Horizon Terminal and the ports of Tadjourah and Ghoubet. Your shipping line decides which one your cargo calls at, and the bill of lading names it. Ask your agent which it will be, because clearing, storage and collection differ from one terminal to the next.
Per-kilo pricing has a floor. The Deira consolidator rate cards we read for other African lanes start at 30 kg, so one small part can cost as much to move as a larger parcel, while a part that rides in a shared box with other cargo costs less than one booked alone. Engines and gearboxes are heavy enough to go by sea, drained and strapped to a pallet.
Sailings from the Gulf to Djibouti run along the Gulf of Aden. In September 2026 container lines were still restoring Red Sea services while the security situation near Bab el-Mandeb remained unsettled, which is why schedules and surcharges move. Ask your agent for the booked sailing and for any security surcharge in writing; we give no delivery time.
What customs means for a buyer in Djibouti
Djibouti Customs assesses duty and tax on the tariff line and the invoice value when your clearing agent files the declaration, so the agent knows the figure before anyone else does. Ask for a written estimate against the part number and the price we quote. Ask too whether Djibouti Customs accepts a used unit of that type, because the time to find out is before you pay, not when the part is at the port.
We publish no Djibouti duty or VAT figure, because we could not read an official tariff schedule for it on 7 October 2026. A rate copied from a forwarder's page is a starting point for your agent's estimate, never a promise.
Djibouti also runs three free zones under the same authority: the Djibouti International Free Trade Zone, the Djibouti Free Zone and the Damerjog industrial zone. The first sits at kilometre 23 on the N1 road in the Arta Region and lists 140,000 square metres of warehouse space. A trader who stores stock in a free zone deals with that zone's operator and its rules; we quote parts and take no part in zone arrangements.
Which parts travel well to Djibouti, and which do not
Fixed freight and clearance costs weigh most on a single small part. Heavy mechanical units and light, high-value electrical parts suit a long lane best; bulky panels and low-value consumables suit it least, because the freight can exceed the price of the part itself.
Dangerous goods need special handling whatever the lane. Wet and lithium batteries, airbags, seat-belt pretensioners, gas-charged shock absorbers, fluids and undrained engines should not go by courier air without a dangerous-goods contract, and a drained engine is what an agent expects.
| Part | Usual way | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Engines and gearboxes | Sea, in a shared or full container | Drained, strapped and photographed; confirm used units are accepted. |
| Alternators, starters, control units, sensors | Air or shared groupage | High value for weight, so the minimum chargeable weight can dominate the cost. |
| Body panels, bumpers, lamps | Sea, or air if urgent | Volume drives the price; protect glass and paint. |
| Suspension and driveline parts | Sea | Heavy; gas-charged shocks are dangerous goods by air. |
| Batteries, airbags, pretensioners, fluids | Dangerous goods only | Never by courier air without a dangerous-goods contract. |
What to send on WhatsApp for a Djibouti request
Djibouti's official languages are French and Arabic, and our desk replies in English, so lead with what needs no translation: a photo of the old part and its label, the part number if you can read it, and the vehicle's VIN. A VIN lets a person check the fit against the stock before quoting, which saves paying freight on the wrong part.
Add the make, model and year, the engine code for an engine or gearbox, and the quantity. Say whether the part is for your own workshop or fleet or for resale, and name the cargo agent who will collect in Dubai. If your clearing agent has already told you whether a used unit is acceptable, say so. A person replies with what is available and a quote. We quote the part and nothing around it: freight, destination duty, tax, port charges and clearing are agreed between you and your agent.
What we do not do for Djibouti
We do not ship to Djibouti, we name no delivery time, we publish no price list and we do not arrange transit onward from Djibouti to any other country. This page is for goods that clear Djibouti Customs and stay in Djibouti. A request that needs onward carriage is outside what we quote, and we say so on WhatsApp rather than guess. We also name no payment method here: a person confirms how to pay on WhatsApp before anything is collected, and a quote stays a quote until your cargo agent has the part in hand.
If you run a workshop or resell parts and want a price list, mixed orders from several suppliers or one consolidated shipment through your own agent, ask for the trade route. That is a different conversation from a single part, and the wholesale page explains what it needs.
UAE parts shops that export
These shops are here because our record of each one lists exporting, sending parts outside the UAE, among what it offers. It is a record of what they told us or published, not a check that they send parts to Djibouti today or of what is on the shelf, and none of them has paid to be here. Ask how the part reaches you, and who handles the export paperwork, before you pay.

Questions buyers ask
- Do you deliver car parts to Djibouti?
- No. A person quotes the part on WhatsApp, and your own cargo agent or forwarder collects it in Dubai and arranges the freight. The booking, the clearing and the delivery terms are agreed between you and your agent, and we give no delivery time because we do not control the sailing.
- How do I get a price for a part for Djibouti?
- Send the vehicle, the part and a photo on WhatsApp. A person replies with what UAE stock and the Sharjah and Dubai yards hold and a quote for the part itself. We publish no price list, because the right figure depends on your car and the unit available.
- Who pays Djibouti customs duty and tax?
- The buyer does, through a clearing agent in Djibouti, when the shipment arrives. Our quote never includes it. Ask the agent for a written estimate against the part number and our quote, and keep it with the order. We publish no Djibouti duty rate because no official schedule was readable when we checked.
- Can a used engine or gearbox go to Djibouti?
- Used engines and gearboxes are the usual heavy items that move by sea. Confirm with your clearing agent that Djibouti Customs accepts a used unit of that type before you pay. We quote the unit, and your agent and your importer decide whether the paperwork works on your side.
- Will Red Sea disruption delay my parts?
- It can change schedules and surcharges. In September 2026 container lines were still restoring Red Sea services, so a transit time quoted last month may not hold. Ask your agent for the booked sailing and for any security surcharge in writing before you commit.
- Will a part from UAE stock fit my vehicle in Djibouti?
- Often, but not always. UAE stock mixes GCC-spec and Japanese-spec vehicles, and specifications differ between markets. Send the VIN and a photo of the old part and its label so a person can check the fit before you spend on freight.
- Can I buy in volume for a workshop or for resale?
- Yes. Ask for the trade route on WhatsApp for price lists, mixed orders from several suppliers and one consolidated shipment through your own agent. A single part and a trade order are different conversations, so say which you want in your first message.
