New turbochargers, cartridges and actuators from Dubai

Updated

The quick answer

We quote new turbochargers, cartridges (CHRA), actuators and turbo gasket kits for the diesel trucks and vans export markets run, such as the 1KD, 1GD, 1VD and Isuzu 4JJ1 engines. Each line names its grade and maker. Send the VIN, the engine code and a photograph of the old turbo's nameplate, and a person quotes the list on WhatsApp for collection in Dubai. We do not supply rebuilt turbochargers.

Key facts

  • In Garrett's FAQ, a number with 0 after the dash is OE, one with 5 is aftermarket, and an OES number is the aftermarket one without its final S.
  • Garrett advises always changing the engine oil and filter before fitting a new turbo, then cranking 10 to 15 seconds without starting to prime the oil feed.
  • Garrett says its turbocharger business began in 1954 and that it became independent of Honeywell on 1 October 2018 (Wikipedia).
  • BorgWarner entered turbochargers in 1998 by buying KKK; its aftermarket and fuel businesses moved into a separate company, PHINIA, in July 2023 (Wikipedia).
  • Toyota described the 2015 GD diesels' turbocharger as a compact variable-geometry unit made in-house; the 1VD-FTV V8 has been built with one turbo or two.
  • A failed turbo seal lets oil into the exhaust, which on a diesel can lead to a runaway event, according to Wikipedia's turbocharger article.
  • We quote turbochargers, cartridges, actuators and gasket kits new only; we do not supply rebuilt, remanufactured or reconditioned turbochargers.

What does a turbocharger order contain?

A turbo list has four kinds of line. The complete turbocharger is the unit bolted to the exhaust side of the engine. The cartridge, also called the CHRA or centre housing rotating assembly, is its centre: Wikipedia says it houses the shaft that joins the turbine to the compressor, with a bearing that lets the shaft spin at high speed with little friction. The actuator moves the wastegate or the variable vanes, and the gasket kit seals the turbo to the engine and its oil lines.

Two details change what we quote. Some cartridges are water-cooled and have pipes for the engine's coolant, which Wikipedia says helps protect the lubricating oil from overheating, so a line must say which kind the engine carries. Actuators are either pneumatic or a rotary electric type, according to the same article, and the 1VD-FTV has been built with both, so we ask for photographs of the old actuator and its connector.

We quote every one of these as a new part. We do not supply rebuilt, remanufactured or reconditioned turbochargers or cartridges, so a worn unit is replaced by a new one. A line that cannot be had new is left off the list, and a person says so before anything is collected.

Which diesel engines and fleets run these turbochargers?

The diesel fleets are the Toyota and Isuzu trucks and vans our East African notes keep returning to. In Kenya, Isuzu took 47.81% of 13,583 new vehicles in 2025, per Business Daily. In Uganda, a 2025 headline from Best Selling Cars Blog, seen as a snippet only, gives the Hilux and Land Cruiser 70 a combined 49.7%. The notes list turbos beside clutches, injectors and engine kits in the Isuzu truck basket for Kenya and Uganda, which is analyst judgement and not a measured share.

The engine decides the turbo. Wikipedia gives the 1KD-FTV a variable-nozzle turbo with an intercooler. Toyota's 2015 release calls the GD engines' unit a compact variable-geometry turbocharger made in-house. A Toyota club article describes one or two variable-geometry turbochargers on the 1VD-FTV V8, with electric actuators on the 2007 Land Cruiser 200 and a vacuum actuator on the Euro-4 Land Cruiser 70. Wikipedia gives the Isuzu 4JJ1-TCX a variable-geometry turbo from 2006. Each engine has its own page for the rest of its parts.

Genuine, OE-brand or aftermarket: what can the number tell you?

Garrett's own FAQ gives a way to read the grade from the nameplate. After the dash, an OE number begins with 0 and an aftermarket number begins with 5 and ends in S. An OES number, for a part from the original-equipment supplier sold under its own name, is the aftermarket number without the final S. We treat that as a clue and not a guarantee, and we quote the number we see on your old turbo and on the box.

Four makers come up on turbo lists. Wikipedia dates Garrett's turbocharger business to 1954 and its independence from Honeywell to October 2018. BorgWarner entered turbos in 1998 by buying KKK, and its aftermarket business moved into PHINIA in July 2023, so a BorgWarner-badged turbo in an aftermarket box is a number to check, not a brand to assume. IHI is a Japanese turbo maker, and retail listings tie Toyota's KD and GD turbos to its CT16V family with numbers beginning 17201, a link we could not find on a Toyota or IHI page. Retail listings also show Mitsubishi Heavy Industries TD04 units for the Mitsubishi 4D56.

We class a maker's turbo as OE-brand when that maker also supplies the carmaker for the engine in question, and as Quality aftermarket otherwise, and the quote says which. We priced no turbocharger in Dubai, so this page states no price and no ratio. A turbo is a high-value line, and the practical habit is to ask for two grades of the same number and compare them.

What should be done before and after fitting a new turbo?

Garrett's advice for a first-time installer is that the most important step is to discover why the original turbo failed, since skipping it can make the new one fail the same way, often sooner. It says to change the engine oil and filter before fitting, to use new air, oil and fuel filters, to fit a new oil inlet pipe, and to check that the air hoses are clean and undamaged. Its guide stresses keeping debris out of the turbo throughout.

Priming comes last. Garrett's guide says to pour clean engine oil into the turbo's oil inlet before fitting the feed line, to crank the engine for 10 to 15 seconds without starting it, then to idle for 3 to 4 minutes while looking for oil, gas and air leaks, and to recheck the oil level afterwards. Wikipedia adds what a failed turbo can do to a diesel: a failed seal lets oil into the exhaust, and that can lead to a runaway event.

Why are actuators and cartridges not always sold on their own?

Garrett's FAQ says a faulty actuator cannot be bought separately from some of its turbos, and that the turbo should be replaced by a complete, correctly calibrated one. That is Garrett's rule for its own products, and other makers differ. We quote an actuator on its own only where the maker lists it as a separate part, and otherwise quote the whole turbo. A person tells you which applies to your number.

A cartridge renews the centre of a turbo but reuses your housings, so it suits a unit whose housings are sound and whose cause of failure has been found. Send photographs of the compressor and turbine housings and of the nameplate. If either housing is cracked or scored, a cartridge is the wrong line and we quote the complete turbocharger.

Which rules and destinations touch a turbo shipment?

Our sources give no duty rate for turbochargers, so this page quotes none; your clearing agent's broker picks the customs heading for a turbo or its cartridge and gives you the rate. The US controls on Russia and Belarus name heading 8409 for engine parts and heading 8414 for air and gas compressors, and a turbo part may be declared under either. Russia, Belarus and every other refused destination are outside what we supply, and a person asks where the engine runs before a turbo list is priced.

A turbo should travel sealed. Keep each unit in its maker's packaging with the port caps in place, since Garrett's guide stresses keeping debris out, and mark the outer carton with the number from the quote. Ask your agent how it measures volume before you decide the load.

What to send for a turbocharger quote

Send the VIN, the engine code and the build month, and say whether the engine has one turbo or two. Garrett tells installers to check the turbo part number on the nameplate, so send a clear photograph of it, plus the actuator and its connector, and say whether the exhaust has a particulate filter. If you know why the old turbo failed, say so; it changes what we advise you to quote beside it.

A fleet list suits this family: turbochargers, cartridges, actuators and gasket kits for several trucks of one engine family, each line with its grade. The reply names the maker, grade and number of each line, flags any line a distributor cannot supply at your quantity, and a person confirms how to pay in the same chat. One turbo on its own is not an export order.

Who you are buying from

  • Easy Auto is a UAE-licensed exporter of new car parts, genuine and aftermarket, quoted from Dubai.
  • A person quotes every export order on WhatsApp, line by line, with each part's grade named: genuine, OE-brand or aftermarket.
  • We quote export orders by the list, at trade quantities, not one or two pieces.
  • New parts only. We do not supply used parts, half-cuts or rebuilt engines.
  • Your own cargo agent or forwarder collects the parts in Dubai and ships them on. We do not ship abroad, book destination inspections or clear customs at your end.
  • Before you pay, ask for photos of the parts with their part numbers in view.

Questions buyers ask

Do you supply rebuilt or reconditioned turbochargers?
No. Easy Auto exports new parts only, so we supply no rebuilt, remanufactured or reconditioned turbochargers or cartridges. We quote new turbochargers, cartridges, actuators and gasket kits, each graded Genuine, OE-brand or Quality aftermarket, and a line that cannot be had new is left off the list.
How can I tell an OE Garrett turbo from an aftermarket one?
Garrett's FAQ says an OE number begins with 0 after the dash and an aftermarket number begins with 5 and ends in S, while an OES number is the aftermarket number without the final S. Use it as a clue only, and send us a photograph of the nameplate and the box so a person can confirm the line.
Can you quote just the cartridge for my turbo?
Yes, where the housings are sound. A cartridge renews the centre of the turbo and reuses the compressor and turbine housings, so send photographs of both housings and of the nameplate. If a housing is cracked or scored, a cartridge is the wrong line and we quote the complete turbocharger instead.
Do I need a new oil filter when I fit a new turbo?
Garrett says you should always change the engine oil and filter before fitting a new turbo, and fit a new oil inlet pipe. It also says to prime the oil feed by cranking for 10 to 15 seconds without starting. Engine oil is a fluid and is left out of our export quotes, so your fitter sources it locally, while oil filters can go on the same list.
Is the actuator sold separately from the turbocharger?
It depends on the maker. Garrett's FAQ says a faulty actuator cannot be bought separately from some of its turbos, because the unit is calibrated as a whole. We quote an actuator on its own only where the maker lists it separately, and otherwise quote the complete turbo. A person tells you which applies.
Which engines do you quote turbo parts for?
The Toyota 1KD-FTV, 1GD-FTV and 1VD-FTV diesels, the Isuzu 4JJ1 and 4HK1, and other codes by VIN. Each of those engines has its own page for the rest of its parts. Send the engine code and the number on the nameplate, and a person checks them against each other before quoting.
How should a turbocharger be packed for my cargo agent?
Keep it in the maker's sealed packaging with the port caps in place, because Garrett's guide stresses keeping debris out of a turbo, and mark the outer carton with the number from the quote. Ask your agent how it measures volume, since a turbo carton can bill by size more than by weight.
Will you quote turbochargers for any destination?
No. Russia, Belarus and every other refused destination are outside what we supply, and the US lists for those two countries name engine parts and compressors. A person asks where the engine runs before a turbo list is priced, and the answer has to hold together. For other destinations the VIN and the country settle the quote.
