Land Cruiser 70 and Prado parts from Dubai for export

Updated

The quick answer

Trade buyers in Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Kuwait can send a list for the Land Cruiser 70 series or the Prado, with the engine code and chassis number, and a person quotes new genuine, OE-brand and aftermarket parts line by line. Your cargo agent collects in Dubai. Mining and aid fleets mostly buy through Toyota's own channels, so our quotes suit the importers and contractors who restock these trucks.

Key facts

  • Toyota says the 70 series first launched in 1984; Japan re-introduced it on 29 November 2023 with the 1GD-FTV 2.8 litre diesel, 150 kW, and a six-speed automatic.
  • Wikipedia lists the 1HZ 4.2 litre diesel six for markets with lax emission rules such as Africa, and the 1VD-FTV V8 diesel from 2007, first for Australia only.
  • Toyota's 2009 Prado release names the 2TR-FE 2.7 and 1GR-FE 4.0 V6; its 2023 Prado 250 premiere names the 1GD-FTV 2.8 diesel and T24A-FTS 2.4 turbo petrol.
  • A BestSellingCarsBlog summary seen only as a snippet gives Uganda's 2025 new sales to the Hilux at 29% and the Land Cruiser 70 at 20.7%.
  • Kuwait's 2025 new-vehicle sales ranked the Prado second, behind the Land Cruiser, in a market of 152,879 vehicles.
  • Kenya's inspectors were told in 2019 that 17 kinds of used wear part may not be imported, so brake pads, filters and joints for these trucks are bought new.
  • Zambia's mining rules require mines to buy 20% of procurement locally by 30 June 2026, rising to 40%, so mines are not who we chase.

Which Land Cruiser is a 70, which is a Prado, and why the overlap?

Toyota's own history page lists the Land Cruiser Prado 70 of 1990, the Prado 90 of 1996, the 120 of 2002 and the 150 of 2009, so the Prado name began on a 70-series wagon. A footnote in Toyota's April 2024 release says the 70-series wagons were marketed as the Land Cruiser Prado from 1990 and that the lineup has since used two names. A seller abroad who says Prado may mean any of these, so give the chassis number.

The 70 series is Toyota's heavy-duty line, first launched in 1984. Its three body codes, per Wikipedia, are the 76 wagon, added in the 2007 refresh, the 78 long-wheelbase troop carrier and the 79 pickup, with a double-cab HZJ79 from 2012. Toyota re-introduced it in Japan on 29 November 2023 with the 1GD-FTV 2.8 litre diesel and a six-speed automatic, after a one-year commemorative re-release in 2014 that used the 4.0 litre 1GR-FE.

The engine depends on where the truck was sold. Wikipedia's tables put the 1HZ 4.2 litre diesel six in Africa, the 1GR-FE 4.0 V6 petrol in markets such as the Middle East, and the 1VD-FTV 4.5 V8 diesel from 2007, first for Australia only. A GCC-spec HZJ79 is also listed. A 79 in Kampala and a 79 in Kuwait can therefore need different engine parts, which is why the engine code comes first on every quote.

Which African and Gulf fleets run these trucks?

Uganda shows the 70 series most clearly. Toyota took 64.2% of new sales in 2022, per a BestSellingCarsBlog snippet, and its 2025 summary, seen only as a search snippet, puts the Hilux at 29% and the Land Cruiser 70 at 20.7%, about half the market between them. An import agent's Uganda guide also lists the Prado and the Hiace van among popular imports, which fits a fleet of working trucks and vans.

Kenya's figures are older and patchier. Business Daily, using Kenya Revenue Authority data, counted 8,110 Land Cruisers among registrations in the 22 months to October 2018, behind only the Probox and Corolla. A 2024 summary seen only as a snippet gives the Land Cruiser 70 16.5% of new sales, behind the Isuzu D-Max at 21.4%. KEBS told inspectors in 2019 that 17 wear categories may not be imported used, and no later change was found.

In Zimbabwe, whose registered fleet was 1,467,955 at the end of 2022, we expect the 70 series and Prado to sit beside the Hilux and Hiace as the Toyotas to serve, but no official make shares exist. In Zambia, Toyota held 34.2% of new sales in 2021 in a snippet-level source, and we expect Copperbelt mining and transport fleets to run these trucks. Kuwait supplies the contrast: a left-hand-drive, GCC-spec Prado market.

Do mining, UN and aid fleets buy from a Dubai exporter?

Mostly not. Toyota's appointed distributor for humanitarian and conservation buyers holds long-term agreements with UN agencies and bundles vehicles, parts and warranty, and Toyota Tsusho's Africa division covers all 54 African countries through CFAO and other companies. UN country offices tender repair-and-parts contracts that need a local workshop, and the UN Procurement Division excludes traders and brokers from its vehicle-and-parts contracts.

Mining is fenced by law. Zambia's 2025 regulations, enforced from 1 January 2026, require mines to buy 20% of procurement from local companies by 30 June 2026, rising to 40% within five years, and reserve non-core goods critical to mining for Zambian-owned firms. First Quantum reported 84% of its Zambian spend with Zambian-registered businesses in 2024. Whether light-vehicle parts count as core goods is open, so we do not claim to serve mine tenders.

The buyers who do reach a Dubai exporter are parts importers in Nairobi, Kampala, Harare and Lusaka, plus contractors and small aid groups with out-of-warranty trucks who send a list through a local trader or their own agent. They want 70-series and Prado wear parts on one list, in quantity, with the grade named. That is the order shape we quote.

Which new parts do these trucks order, system by system?

Kenya's list of used wear parts that may not be imported reads like a service schedule: brake pads, filters, bearings, spark plugs, clutch plates, ball joints, tie-rod ends, bushes and brake hoses are among its 17 categories. Those are the lines a 70-series or Prado operator replaces most, and new Toyota-number or branded aftermarket versions of them are the core of a trade list for these trucks.

Behind the service lines sit the driveline and suspension parts that upcountry work wears: propeller shaft and wheel-bearing parts, shock absorbers and springs, clutch and release sets, and cooling and injection parts for the diesels. An overhaul list for a 1HZ, 1KD-FTV or 1VD-FTV carries gasket sets, piston and ring sets, bearings, a timing set, injector parts and pumps. Each engine has its own page, and a person quotes the lines against your engine code.

How far does genuine reach against OE-brand and aftermarket?

For the 4.0 litre petrol Prado 150 and the Gulf 70 series, the one priced number is the 1GR-FE water pump, Toyota 16100-39456, which a Dubai seller's listing ties to the Land Cruiser, Prado, Hilux and 4Runner. Dubai counters showed AED 397 for the genuine pump on 3 November 2026, against AED 214 to 229 for the two aftermarket makes, GMB and NPW, a ratio of 0.54 to 0.58 with VAT in both. The 1HZ, 1KD-FTV and 1VD-FTV parts were not priced.

Price is not the only risk. Kenya's Anti-Counterfeit Authority put counterfeit prevalence in automotive spare parts at 21% in a 2025 consumer study, the highest of any category, and its firm survey ranked four-wheeler parts the most counterfeited item. Zimbabwe's state fleet agency warned in August 2025 that fake brake fluid and other products were circulating, and told buyers to use members of the motor industry association. A Kampala buying guide says quality varies from stall to stall.

China holds 36% of Kenya's recorded vehicle-part imports, 37% of Uganda's and about 48% of Tanzania's, which sets the price floor an operator compares against. The answer is the three-grade list, Genuine, OE-brand and Quality aftermarket, each line labelled, so the buyer picks the grade truck by truck and part by part.

Does a Gulf-spec 70 or Prado match an African truck?

Mechanically, often yes by engine and chassis number; by side, no. Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Zambia drive on the left of the road and so run right-hand-drive trucks, while Kuwait's are left-hand drive. New aftermarket brake, suspension, filter and engine parts are made for both, so they quote by part number. Steering racks, dashboards, pedal assemblies and wiper parts belong to one side and are quoted by part number only.

Market specification matters as much as the side. The 70 series meets different emission rules in different regions, which is why Africa kept the 1HZ, Australia took the 1VD-FTV V8 from 2007 and the Gulf has a petrol 1GR-FE and a GCC-spec HZJ79. A Prado 150 sold in Kuwait and one sold in Kampala can differ in engine and equipment. Send the chassis number with the engine code, and a person matches both.

What should you check before paying for these parts?

Check that the quote names your truck, not just the word Prado, and shows a generation or chassis code. Check that the engine on the quote is the one on your plate: a 1HZ list is not a 1GD list, and a Prado 150 diesel can be a 1KD-FTV or a 1GD-FTV. Ask which grade each line is, and expect genuine lines to cost roughly one and a half times OE-brand.

Know what your own border asks of new parts. In Kenya, new parts take a different inspection route from used ones, so ask your clearing agent which firm covers them. In Uganda, parts with no compulsory product standard sit outside mandatory pre-export verification, and consignments of USD 2,000 FOB or less are checked on arrival. Zambia's compulsory standards list has no entry for brakes, suspension or lamps.

Questions buyers ask

What is the difference between a Land Cruiser 70 and a Prado?
The 70 series is Toyota's heavy-duty line from 1984, in 76 wagon, 78 troop carrier and 79 pickup forms. The Prado name began on 70-series wagons in 1990 and was then used for the lighter 90, 120, 150 and 250 trucks. Toyota notes the lineup has used two names, so send the chassis number to settle which truck you mean.
Which engine is in an African-market Land Cruiser 79?
Wikipedia says Africa continued with the 1HZ 4.2 litre diesel after the 2007 refresh, while the 1VD-FTV V8 diesel went first to Australia and the Middle East has a petrol 1GR-FE. Markets differ, so read the code off the engine plate and send it with the chassis number before any quote.
Does a Prado 150 share parts with a Hilux?
They share engine families. A Dubai seller's listing for water pump 16100-39456 names the Land Cruiser, Prado, Hilux and 4Runner, all with the 1GR-FE. The 2TR-FE and the GD diesels also appear in both. Mounts, sensors and bodywork differ by vehicle, so the number and chassis decide, not the engine family alone.
Why do Kenyan buyers order new brake pads and filters for a Land Cruiser?
In 2019 KEBS told pre-shipment inspectors that 17 categories of used wear part, among them brake pads, filters, bearings, spark plugs and clutch plates, may not be imported, and we found no later change. Kenyan buyers therefore order these new, genuine or branded aftermarket, and a person quotes them with the grade named.
Can you quote parts for the new Prado 250?
Yes, by VIN. Toyota's August 2023 premiere named the 1GD-FTV 2.8 diesel and the T24A-FTS 2.4 turbo petrol for the Middle East, the GCC reveal came in June 2024, and South Africa followed on 3 June 2024. We claim no stock for it. A person checks what can be quoted against your VIN.
Can mining companies and NGOs buy from you?
A fleet buyer can send a list on WhatsApp like anyone else, and a person quotes it. Many aid and mining fleets are tied to Toyota's own channels, long-term service contracts or local-content rules, so check with your procurement team first. We do not promise to win tenders and do not quote duty or delivery.
Can you deliver parts to my mine, camp or yard?
No. Your own cargo agent or forwarder collects the parts in Dubai, prepares the export papers and books the freight, and your clearing agent handles the border. We do not ship abroad or give delivery times. A person confirms the collection details with you on WhatsApp once the quote is agreed.
Do you supply used or rebuilt 1HZ and 1VD-FTV engines?
No. Easy Auto exports new genuine, OE-brand and quality aftermarket parts only. For these engines a person quotes new overhaul parts, such as gasket sets, piston and ring sets, bearings and pumps, against the engine code. We do not supply used or rebuilt engines, gearboxes or half-cuts.
