How to import car parts from Dubai to Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire)

Updated

The quick answer

Garages, fleets and parts traders in Côte d'Ivoire can order new genuine, OE-brand and quality aftermarket parts from us by the list, mostly for Toyota, Suzuki and Mitsubishi. Your own cargo agent collects in Dubai and books the freight to Abidjan or San Pedro. The rule that trips most first orders is timing: the FDI import declaration and, for sea cargo, the BSC tracking note must be validated before the ship arrives. A person quotes every line on WhatsApp, in English.

Key facts

  • In Côte d'Ivoire's own 2023 customs data the UAE is the largest recorded supplier of other vehicle parts (HS 870899): USD 5.71M of 20.91M, about 27%.
  • China is second in the same Ivorian data at USD 3.28M and Germany third at USD 2.70M.
  • Decree 2017-792 caps used passenger cars imported into Côte d'Ivoire at five years old, in force since 1 July 2018.
  • VAT is 18% on the CIF value plus all duties and taxes, with a 1% statistical duty and a 2.6% import tax on most goods.
  • Duty follows the ECOWAS five-band tariff, 0, 5, 10, 20 or 35%, set by each part's tariff line.
  • Sea cargo discharging at Abidjan or San Pedro needs a BSC cargo tracking note, validated at least five days before the vessel arrives.
  • The importer's FDI declaration is filed through the GUCE single window and must be validated before the goods land.

Which new parts Ivorian buyers can import, and what Abidjan checks

Côte d'Ivoire keeps the cars it imports young. Decree 2017-792, effective from 1 July 2018, limits used passenger cars to five years from their first registration abroad, and the CIVLII law database shows the decree in force in its July 2023 version. A Hilux, Corolla or RAV4 that entered under that rule is a recent model, and its owner or fleet manager usually wants a part that matches the factory one: genuine Toyota, an OE-brand maker such as Denso, Aisin or KYB, or a quality aftermarket line.

For new parts the checks are mostly paperwork rather than a product certificate. The US Commerce Department's guide, published in May 2026, names prior import authorisation for farm goods, chemicals, medicines and defence items, and type approval for some telecom and electrical equipment. Vehicle parts appear on neither list, and we found no Ivorian conformity certificate required on new car parts before they leave Dubai. Rules change, so ask your Abidjan clearing agent to confirm for the lines on your first order.

We found no Ivorian rule on imported used parts, and the question never arises with us, because we export new parts only. The trade data is the stronger reason to read on. In Côte d'Ivoire's own customs records for 2023, the UAE was the largest recorded supplier of other vehicle parts, the catch-all line HS 870899, ahead of China and Germany. Angola is the only other West or Central African market in our research where the UAE comes first.

What Côte d'Ivoire charges on car parts at Abidjan

Côte d'Ivoire applies the ECOWAS common external tariff, with five bands of 0, 5, 10, 20 and 35%. The US guide ties them to essential goods, raw materials and capital goods, intermediate goods, final consumer goods and sensitive items. Car parts do not sit in one band: a mixed pallet of pads, filters and lamps can span two or three tariff lines, so we do not publish one Ivorian rate for parts. Your clearing agent reads each line from the current schedule.

Three charges sit on top of duty in the same guide. A statistical duty of 1% applies to nearly all imports, and an import tax of 2.6% to most goods. VAT is 18%, charged on the CIF value plus all duties and taxes, so it compounds on everything before it. The guide also warns that community and solidarity levies and excise may apply to some products, without giving rates, which is one more reason to ask for the assessment line by line.

As arithmetic only, if each charge before VAT is taken on the CIF value and nothing else applies, a part in the 10% band would carry about 34% of its CIF value in charges, and one in the 20% band about 46%. CIF means the goods plus insurance and freight to Abidjan. Treat those figures as a sense of scale; the community levies the guide mentions would add to them, and your agent's assessment is what you pay.

The papers an Abidjan clearing agent will ask for

Two filings belong to the Ivorian importer, not to us, and both have deadlines. The FDI import declaration is filed electronically through GUCE, the single-window portal, and the US guide says it must be validated before the goods arrive. For sea cargo there is also the BSC cargo tracking note, run by the Office Ivoirien des Chargeurs. A cargo-note service's guide, updated in August 2026, says it applies to sea shipments discharging at Abidjan and San Pedro, must be validated at least five days before the vessel arrives, and is built from the FDI and a local insurance certificate.

From the Dubai side your clearing agent needs a commercial invoice with the HS code and brand on every line, a packing list that matches the cartons, and a certificate of origin. The US guide says Ivorian customs expects the invoice in French, with full exporter and consignee details, usually in two copies, and the certificate of origin in duplicate. Our quotes are written in English, and we write the invoice and packing list in French on request; ask for it when you confirm the order.

The certificate of origin comes from the Dubai Chamber and names the country where each part was made, for example Japan for many Toyota lines, not the UAE. A part made in Japan and re-exported from Dubai therefore claims no Gulf or Arab trade preference at Abidjan. On the UAE side the export declaration goes through Dubai Customs' Mirsal 2 system, filed by a licensed broker or the registered exporter, and Dubai Customs then issues an exit certificate that your agent keeps with the bill of lading.

How your cargo agent moves the order from Dubai to Abidjan

The handover happens in Dubai. Once you accept a quote and payment is settled, we pack the order to your agent's instructions and the agent collects it, books the freight to Abidjan or San Pedro, and arranges the UAE export filing. Easy Auto does not book freight, choose the vessel or clear the goods in Côte d'Ivoire, so the freight price and the transit time are agreed between you and your agent.

Plan the sea leg with 2026 in mind. Every ship leaving Jebel Ali passes the Strait of Hormuz, and Semafor reported container traffic there almost at a standstill on 2 September 2026 because of the war. We have not checked the position in November. Before the BSC deadline starts to bite, ask your agent which services are loading for West Africa, how the cargo is routed and whether the lighter, urgent lines should fly.

The only published ranges we can point to are one Dubai forwarder's bands for Africa as a whole, undated and read on 7 October 2026, not an Abidjan rate card. They are guides to scale, not quotes, and not Easy Auto prices. Ask your agent for a firm figure on the day, then add Ivorian clearing, port charges and the road from the port to your workshop or store.

Paying from Côte d'Ivoire, and checking the quote is ours

A person confirms how to pay on WhatsApp after you accept a quote, and nothing is handed to your agent until that is settled. This page names no payment method and no credit terms, because those are agreed order by order. Tell the person quoting how your Ivorian bank normally pays a supplier abroad, so the arrangement suits both sides from the first order rather than being worked out after the goods are packed.

Check who you are paying before any money moves. A quote from us arrives in the WhatsApp chat you opened from this site, with every line, grade and brand written out. If payment instructions reach you from another number, as a forwarded screenshot, or with a private person named as the payee, stop and confirm them in the original chat first. Abidjan importers who buy through intermediaries should apply the same check to anyone quoting in our name.

Left-hand drive: which Gulf-spec parts fit Ivorian cars

Côte d'Ivoire drives on the right, in left-hand-drive cars, the same layout as the Gulf. That opens up the parts that depend on steering side. Gulf-specification headlamps, tail lamps, mirrors, bumpers, wings and dashboard parts are built for the same side as an Ivorian car, so they can go on the same list as the filters, brakes and suspension parts that fit either way.

Steering side settles only part of the match. A Hilux sold new in Abidjan, one built for the Gulf and one that came in from Europe can differ in engine, emissions parts, trim and lamp design, even in the same model year. Send the VIN, or the part number printed on the old part, and the person quoting matches each Gulf-sourced line to your car's build rather than to its model name.

The Toyota, Suzuki and Mitsubishi parts we quote for Côte d'Ivoire

Toyota has led Abidjan's parts trade for a long time. A 2009 Abidjan.net survey of the city's parts markets, including Adjamé, Koumassi, Abobo and Marcory, found Toyota parts the most common, ahead of Peugeot, Mercedes and BMW, and Adjamé still has listed parts shops today. Market reports we could read only in summary put Toyota at about half of new-car sales in 2018, with Suzuki and Mitsubishi next. The working fleet is the Hilux, Land Cruiser, Prado, Corolla and RAV4, with Suzuki models and the Mitsubishi L200.

Our own enquiries from Côte d'Ivoire have come from garages and car owners, and one named a 2025 Fortuner with the 1GR-FE petrol V6, a young car of exactly the kind the age cap produces. The Dubai price ladder for that engine's water pump, Toyota 16100-39456, shows how far grades differ: on 3 November 2026 genuine cost AED 397 on a Deira counter, and quality aftermarket from GMB or NPW AED 214 to 229, both with VAT. Ask for two grades on a line and the person quoting will price them side by side.

What Easy Auto does in Dubai, and what you handle in Côte d'Ivoire

On our side: we take your list, source each line across UAE distributors and aftermarket suppliers, and reply with the brand and grade named on every line. When you accept, we pack to your agent's instructions, mark the cartons against the packing list and hand the order over in Dubai. On yours: you are the importer of record, so the FDI, the BSC, Ivorian duty and VAT, port charges and clearing are paid and handled by you and your agents.

Many Ivorian buyers write to us in French. We reply on WhatsApp in English, so the fastest list is one built from things that read the same in any language: part numbers, VINs, engine codes and photos of the labels. Build it as a trade list, not one part. The BSC, the FDI and your clearing agent's fee are paid per consignment, so they weigh heavily on one brake pad set and lightly on a pallet of service parts.

Who you are buying from

  • Easy Auto is a UAE-licensed exporter of new car parts, genuine and aftermarket, quoted from Dubai.
  • A person quotes every export order on WhatsApp, line by line, with each part's grade named: genuine, OE-brand or aftermarket.
  • We quote export orders by the list, at trade quantities, not one or two pieces.
  • New parts only. We do not supply used parts, half-cuts or rebuilt engines.
  • Your own cargo agent or forwarder collects the parts in Dubai and ships them on. We do not ship abroad, book destination inspections or clear customs at your end.
  • Before you pay, ask for photos of the parts with their part numbers in view.

Questions buyers ask

How do I import car parts from Dubai to Abidjan?
Send your list on WhatsApp with part numbers or VINs, and a person quotes each line with its grade and brand. Your cargo agent collects in Dubai and books the freight. Before the goods arrive, your importer files the FDI through GUCE and, for sea cargo, validates the BSC tracking note. Duty, VAT and clearing are paid in Côte d'Ivoire.
Can I write to you in French?
You can, and many Ivorian buyers do, but we reply in English on WhatsApp; only the invoice and packing list can be written in French, on request. Part numbers, VINs, engine codes and clear photos of the old part's label are understood whatever language the message is in, so put those first and the quote comes back faster.
Do I need a BSC for car parts shipped from Dubai?
For sea cargo, yes, according to a cargo-note service's guide updated in August 2026: shipments discharging at Abidjan or San Pedro need a BSC from the Office Ivoirien des Chargeurs, validated at least five days before the vessel arrives. It draws on your FDI and a local insurance certificate, so your importer and agent arrange it.
How much tax will I pay on car parts in Côte d'Ivoire?
Duty is the ECOWAS band for each part's tariff line, from 0 to 35%. The US Commerce Department's guide adds a 1% statistical duty, a 2.6% import tax on most goods and 18% VAT on the CIF value plus all duties and taxes. Community levies may add more, so ask your clearing agent for the assessment.
Why pay for genuine Toyota parts on a young car?
On a car under the five-year import cap the original part is still the reference, and the gap is measurable. On 3 November 2026 a genuine 1GR-FE water pump cost AED 397 in Deira against AED 214 to 229 for quality aftermarket. OE-brand parts, from makers that supply Toyota, usually sit between the two.
Will Gulf-spec parts fit my car in Côte d'Ivoire?
Usually, including the side-specific parts, because both drive left-hand-drive cars, so Gulf headlamps, mirrors and body panels are made for the same side. Engines, emissions parts and trims can still differ between a Gulf, European and Ivorian build, so send the VIN or the old part's number for an exact match.
Can you send the parts to San Pedro or to Abidjan airport?
No. We do not ship abroad or arrange freight. Your own cargo agent or forwarder collects the order in Dubai and books the sea or air leg to Côte d'Ivoire, and your clearing agent handles the port or airport. We pack to the agent's instructions and hand over in Dubai.
Do you supply used engines or gearboxes?
No. We export new parts only. For an engine job we quote the new parts it needs, such as gasket sets, timing parts, water pumps and bearings, by engine code, in genuine, OE-brand or quality aftermarket grades. Send the engine code and the parts list from your mechanic.
