1GR-FE 4.0 V6 engine parts from Dubai: pumps, gaskets and chains
Updated
The quick answer
We quote new service and rebuild parts for Toyota's 1GR-FE 4.0 litre V6: water pumps, head gaskets, timing chain parts and the sets around them, for the Prado, FJ Cruiser, Hilux and 4Runner. On 3 November 2026 the pump with Toyota number 16100-39456 listed at AED 397 genuine and AED 214 to 229 from GMB or NPW at one Deira counter, so the grade you choose matters. A person quotes on WhatsApp.
Key facts
- The 1GR-FE is a 3,956 cc, 60 degree V6 with chain-driven overhead cams and VVT-i, so head gaskets and most top-end parts come in pairs.
- Wikipedia lists the engine in the Prado from 2002, the Hilux and Fortuner from 2005, the FJ Cruiser from 2006 and the 4Runner until 2024.
- Toyota UAE's Hilux page, read on 7 October 2026, offers a 4.0 litre six-cylinder in the Hilux Adventure; the page prints no engine code.
- At one Deira counter on 3 November 2026, water pump 16100-39456 listed from AED 397.35 genuine, AED 228.82 from GMB and AED 214.37 from NPW, VAT included.
- UN Comtrade shows the UAE reporting USD 218.96 million of 2023 exports of parts for spark-ignition piston engines, covering every petrol engine and not only this V6.
- In Angola's own 2023 import records the UAE and China tie as top declared suppliers of other vehicle parts, at USD 4.50 million each of 19.46 million (WITS).
- Kuwait's best-selling model in 2025 was the Land Cruiser, with the Prado second; Iraq's best seller in 2024 was the Hilux (BestSellingCarsBlog).

Which trucks carry the 1GR-FE, and from which year?
The 1GR-FE is Toyota's 4.0 litre V6, 3,956 cc with a 94 mm bore and a 95 mm stroke, laid out for pickups and four-wheel-drive wagons that carry the engine lengthways. Wikipedia describes a 60 degree design with double overhead cams, four valves a cylinder and a timing chain. Toyota's own 2009 announcement of the redesigned Land Cruiser Prado names the 1GR-FE as the 4.0 litre V6 beside the 2TR-FE 2.7 litre four. Toyota UAE's 2026 Hilux page still offers those two sizes, a 2.7 litre four and a 4.0 litre six, without printing the codes.
Two versions matter when you order. The first engine used VVT-i on the intake camshafts only, and the updated engine added the same control on the exhaust side as Dual VVT-i, so a VVT parts list for one is not a list for the other. Wikipedia dates the vehicles and not the engine, which is why the table follows the trucks. Use it to place a vehicle, then let the engine code settle the order.
| Vehicle | Chassis codes | Years | VVT-i |
|---|---|---|---|
| Land Cruiser Prado, 120 series | GRJ120, GRJ121, GRJ125 | 2002 to 2009 | Single |
| Land Cruiser Prado, 150 series | GRJ150, GRJ150R, GRJ155 | 2009 to 2023 | Dual |
| Hilux, seventh generation | GGN10, GGN20 | 2005 to 2015 | Single |
| Hilux, eighth generation | AN120 | 2015 to present | Single |
| FJ Cruiser | GSJ10, GSJ15 | 2006 to 2022 | Single to 2009, then Dual |
| 4Runner | GRN210, GRN215, then GRN280, GRN285 | 2002 to 2024 | Single, then Dual from 2009 |
| Land Cruiser 200 | GRJ200 | 2007 to 2021 | Single to 2011, then Dual |
| Land Cruiser 70 | Not listed | 2009 to present | Single |
| Fortuner | GGN50, GGN60, then GGN160 | 2005 to present | Single, then Dual from 2015 |
Which countries run these trucks, and what do the numbers show?
Kuwait's 2025 ranking of new vehicles put the Land Cruiser first with a 7.3% share, the Prado second and the Nissan Patrol third, according to BestSellingCarsBlog, with Toyota taking 29.2% of the brand ranking. Saudi Arabia's 2025 ranking gave Toyota 28.6% and placed the Hilux fourth among models. These are sales rankings and the sources do not split them by engine, so they show where Prado, Land Cruiser and Hilux owners are numerous, not how many carry the V6.
In Iraq the Hilux topped the 2024 ranking, ending ten years of Kia Frontier leadership, and Toyota took 29.3% of 161,404 new vehicles. The Ministry of Planning counted 8,287,604 registered vehicles at the end of 2024, growing by about 200,000 imports a year. Buyers there are price-led: a garage owner in Erbil told Iraq Oil Report in 2019 that cheaper local parts go for half the price of new, so a new-part quote is weighed against that.
Angola's own 2023 import records show the UAE and China level at the top of declared suppliers of other vehicle parts, each with USD 4.50 million of 19.46 million, ahead of Portugal's 4.04 million. Expansão reported in October 2022 that China had overtaken the traditional vehicle suppliers, Dubai among them. Our reading is that the older Toyota trucks, the ones that carry this V6, are the stock that keeps needing parts there.
| Market | Signal | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Kuwait | Land Cruiser first at 7.3% of 152,879 new vehicles, Prado second, 2025 | BestSellingCarsBlog, February 2026 |
| Saudi Arabia | Toyota 28.6% of 857,247 new vehicles, Hilux fourth model, 2025 | BestSellingCarsBlog, February 2026 |
| Iraq | Hilux first model, Toyota 29.3% of 161,404 new vehicles, 2024 | BestSellingCarsBlog, January 2025 |
| Angola | UAE and China level at USD 4.50 million of 19.46 million in other vehicle parts, 2023 | WITS, importer-reported |
What does a 1GR-FE service or rebuild need, part by part?
Because the 1GR-FE is a V6, a trade list counts in pairs. Two cylinder heads mean two head gaskets and two valve cover gaskets for each engine, so a list for twenty engines asks for forty of each. The chain-driven layout means there is no timing belt interval: the wear parts are the chains, tensioners, guides and sprockets, together with the VVT-i parts that ride on the cams.
Around those sit the lines that every engine overhaul list repeats: a ring set, main and rod bearings, an oil pump, a full gasket set, a thermostat and six spark plugs, one for each cylinder. We quote them as one list with each line's grade named, and we say when a set is one maker's kit rather than loose parts. We do not supply complete engines or short blocks, only the parts that go into your own.
| Group | What a trade list names | Count for one engine |
|---|---|---|
| Cooling | Water pump, thermostat, seals | One pump and one thermostat |
| Cylinder heads | Head gaskets and valve cover gaskets | Two of each, one per bank |
| Timing drive | Chains, tensioners, guides, sprockets | One set; count by the maker's kit |
| Variable valve timing | VVT-i oil control valves and actuators | Single and Dual differ; quoted by number |
| Bottom end | Ring set, main and rod bearings, oil pump | One ring set covers all six cylinders |
| Ignition | Spark plugs and coils | Six plugs; coil count from the old coil's number |
How far apart are genuine, OE-brand and aftermarket on a 1GR-FE pump?
We read Toyota number 16100-39456, described on the page as a water pump assembly, on one Deira counter's price list on 3 November 2026, with 5% VAT included. Toyota's own part started at AED 397.35 across four offers. NPW's T171 started at AED 214.37 and GMB's at AED 228.82. GMB is a Japanese water-pump maker, and we grade both makers as quality aftermarket. Their pumps cost about 54 and 58 percent of genuine, so genuine runs at roughly 1.7 to 1.9 times the aftermarket price.
OE-brand sits between the two in our grading, but no OE-brand offer such as Aisin was listed that day, so we have no measured middle rung for this pump and we quote the grade that exists for each line. On a list of 24 pumps, the gap between genuine and the two aftermarket makers at those counter prices comes to roughly AED 4,000 to 4,400. That is arithmetic on a retail listing, not a quote, and the pump we quote may sit above or below it.
A price far under the aftermarket floor deserves a question. A Ghanaian trade blog, The High Street Business, wrote on 17 May 2026 that some fakes are nearly identical to the original and fool experienced dealers, and its example was a counterfeit Toyota water pump. Al-Futtaim, Toyota's UAE distributor, reported seizing about AED 7.46 million of fake parts in 2024. For a genuine lot, ask which distributor's invoice covers it.
| Grade | Brand on the page | Lowest price, AED with VAT | Share of genuine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Genuine | Toyota | 397.35 | 100% |
| Quality aftermarket | GMB | 228.82 | 58% |
| Quality aftermarket | NPW, T171 | 214.37 | 54% |
| OE-brand | None listed that day | Not read | Not measured |
Does the 1GR-FE need different parts in different specs?
Steering side does not change what is inside the engine. A Prado from Kuwait and a Hilux from Kenya carry the same engine family, and a gasket or a chain is quoted from the engine code and the part number, not from the side the driver sits on. What can change is the engine's revision: the original and the Dual VVT-i update differ at the cams, and Wikipedia notes that the 2015 Hilux got a different intake with resonators in the new intake pipe.
The same V6 sits in trucks sold as Prado, Hilux, FJ Cruiser, 4Runner and Fortuner, and Toyota's bodies and accessory layouts differ between them. Parts hung on the engine, such as brackets, hoses and sensors, are quoted by number only and checked against the VIN. A buyer in Baghdad and a buyer in Luanda can share one list if both read the same code, but not if one truck is a 2008 Prado and the other a 2016 one.
What to send for a 1GR-FE quote
Start with the engine code from the plate, then the VIN or chassis number, which on a Prado reads something like GRJ150 followed by a serial. If you cannot tell which VVT-i version you have, give the build year, because the Prado, FJ Cruiser, 4Runner and Land Cruiser 200 changed at different points between 2009 and 2012. Photograph the old pump's casting number and any label on it before it leaves the truck.
Then write quantities by line: pumps, head gaskets in pairs, chain sets, plug sets of six. A person replies on WhatsApp with each line priced, its grade and brand named and a note where a line matches only part of the engine's range. How to pay is confirmed in that chat. A one-line request for a 1GR pump gets questions back, while a list for fifteen engines gets a quote.
What should you check before paying for 1GR-FE parts?
Compare the number on the box with the number you asked for; for the pump that is 16100-39456 or the maker's own cross-reference. The page we read prints no fitment against that number, so a listing alone does not prove the pump fits your engine, and the engine code and VIN do. Ask which brand it is, because the same number came in three brands at three prices.
Be wary of the word genuine on its own. A budget brake pad listing read the same day described itself as genuine quality while priced at less than a fifth of the genuine pad. Ask for the brand, the number and a photograph, and expect all three to match the grade you were quoted.

UAE parts shops that export
These shops are here because our record of each one lists exporting, sending parts outside the UAE, among what it offers, and names Toyota among the makes it covers. It is a record of what they told us or published, not a check that they send parts to your country today or of what is on the shelf, and none of them has paid to be here. Ask how the part reaches you, and who handles the export paperwork, before you pay.

Questions buyers ask
- Is Toyota 16100-39456 the right water pump for a 1GR-FE?
- It is the number we use as the price marker for this V6's pump, and the Deira page we read on 3 November 2026 describes it as a water pump assembly without listing fitment. We therefore check each pump against the engine code and VIN before quoting, because a Prado, a Hilux and a 4Runner can differ by revision.
- How much cheaper is an aftermarket 1GR-FE water pump than a genuine one?
- On the page we read, NPW was shown 46% below Toyota's price and GMB 42% below, which is AED 214.37 and AED 228.82 against AED 397.35. That is one counter's retail listing on one day, so a trade quote can differ, and a person names the grade and brand on each line.
- Does the 1GR-FE have a timing belt or a timing chain?
- Wikipedia describes the GR family as chain-driven, so there is no belt interval. What wears are the chains, tensioners and guides, and the VVT-i parts on the cams. They can be ordered as one set per engine, quoted by number after a person checks your engine code.
- How many head gaskets do I order for ten engines?
- Twenty, because the 1GR-FE is a V6 with two cylinder heads. The same arithmetic gives twenty valve cover gaskets and sixty spark plugs for ten engines. Write the list per engine and multiply it, which avoids the short counts that come from ordering for a single bank.
- Do Fortuner owners ask for the same 1GR-FE parts as Prado owners?
- Wikipedia lists the Fortuner with the 1GR-FE in the GGN50 and GGN60 from 2005 and the GGN160 from 2015, so engine parts can overlap with a Prado's. The VVT-i version and the part number decide, not the badge, and a person checks both against your VIN before quoting.
- Do you supply used or rebuilt 1GR-FE engines?
- No. We quote new parts only: genuine, OE-brand and quality aftermarket. Complete engines, short blocks and used or rebuilt units are not part of our offer. What we quote are the pumps, gasket sets, chains and wear parts that go into your own engine.
- Can I add Hilux service parts to the same 1GR-FE order?
- Yes, on one list. Filters, brakes and suspension for the same truck can sit beside the engine lines, and a person prices every line with its grade. The Hilux and service parts pages explain what those lines cover and how trade lists are counted.
