1HZ 4.2 diesel parts from Dubai for Land Cruiser 70 and 105 fleets

The 1HZ is a 4.2 litre straight-six diesel of 4,164 cc, with a 94 mm bore, a 100 mm stroke, a cast-iron block and head and a single overhead camshaft with 12 valves. Wikipedia rates it at 96 kW at 3,800 rpm and 285 Nm at 2,200 rpm, and gives production as 1990 to the present. Toyota South Africa's current Land Cruiser 79 page lists a 4.2 litre naturally aspirated diesel at 94 kW and 285 Nm, close to the 1HZ's published figures.

Its fuel system explains the loyalty. Wikipedia describes indirect injection with mechanical fuel injection, and the enthusiasts' review calls it a simple injection pump with swirl-chamber combustion and ranks it the most reliable diesel Toyota has built. That ranking is an opinion, not a Toyota statement. What it means for an order is plain: there is no common rail and no turbocharger to quote, so the parts list is mechanical.

The 1HZ replaced the older 2H in the Land Cruiser 80 and 85 series in 1990. Wikipedia's Land Cruiser 70 article says the 70 Series has offered it from 1990 and still does in markets with looser emissions rules, such as Africa and Bolivia, and its Land Cruiser 100 article says the live-axle 105 was sold in African, Australian and South American markets among others, with the 1HZ as its diesel.

The HZ article adds that the Coaster keeps the engine in countries with low or no emissions rules, and that Toyota Gibraltar Stockholdings sells Land Cruiser 70s to organisations such as the United Nations and NGOs. Our research says fleets of that kind buy through distributors, so the buyers we can reach are the workshops and traders who keep those trucks running.

Our research calls the Land Cruiser 70, Prado and Hilux the NGO, mining and upcountry vehicles of East Africa. A sales-statistics blog, which we saw only as a search extract, gave the Land Cruiser 70 16.5% of Kenya's 2024 new sales and 20.7% of Uganda's 2025 sales. Neither figure names an engine, and Toyota South Africa's Land Cruiser 79 lists a GD diesel beside the 4.2, so a new 70 Series may not carry a 1HZ. We ask for the code before we quote.

Zambia is the case our research stresses. The Copperbelt's mining and transport fleets run Hilux, Land Cruiser and Isuzu, and Zambia requires 20% local content in mining supply from 30 June 2026, rising to 40%, with non-core goods reserved for Zambian-owned firms. Our research therefore treats the mining tender route as closed to us; the opening is Lusaka wholesalers and the workshops that service the trucks.

A 1HZ overhaul is built from mechanical parts. The top end is the head gasket set, valve stem seals and glow plugs; the fuel side is a repair kit for the mechanical injection pump and a set of nozzles; the timing side is the belt, tensioner and idler, because the camshaft is belt driven. Send the engine code and tell us whether the head has been machined, since the gasket must suit the work that was done.

The bottom end is piston and ring sets, main and big-end bearings, an oil pump and a water pump. Oversize parts need your measured bores and journal diameters in millimetres, taken from the engine in front of you and not from the last invoice. A bore can only be machined so far, which is why we want the measurement before quoting any oversize set.

Not by assumption. Wikipedia says the 1HD is the turbocharged, direct-injection version of the 1HZ and shares its block and crankshaft, and the enthusiasts' review says the 1HD-T received a new piston chamber and turbocharging, with the 1HD-FTE adding an electronically controlled injection pump. A shared block does not mean a shared piston, head or fuel system, so every 1HZ line is matched to the 1HZ code.

The younger diesels are different engines again: the KD family uses common rail and a belt, the GD family common rail and a chain. A fleet that holds a 1HZ Land Cruiser, a KD Hilux and a GD Hiace needs its parts kept apart by code, so a mixed list should say which truck each line is for.

Our research expects Zimbabwe's buyers to favour quality aftermarket first because they are price sensitive and wary of fakes, with genuine parts for fleets, and the government fleet agency warned in 2025 that fake parts circulate. On a mechanical engine the choice is real: gaskets, seals, belts and bearings come in genuine, OE-brand and quality aftermarket grades, and we name the grade of every line.

The Dubai ladder we measured on 3 November 2026 shows the spread: a quality aftermarket water pump cost 54 to 58 per cent of the genuine Toyota pump, including 5% VAT. On a long-lived engine like the 1HZ that gap is a real saving, but a head gasket or a set of bearings is no place to guess, so ask for the maker's name and a photograph of the box before you pay.

Send the engine code, the chassis number from the plate, the truck model and year, and the country. A 1HZ Land Cruiser can be an 80, a 105 or a 70, so say which, and photograph the label on the old injection pump or a nozzle if you want fuel-side parts. For oversize lines send your measured bores and journal diameters.

List the whole job in one message. Lines come back quoted at trade quantities with the grade and brand named, and fluids stay out. A wholesaler buying for resale should say so and add the lines that sell fastest in their market, because a trade list can mix service parts with overhaul parts.
