Under the V8W and V9W codes there is a 6G72 3.0, a 6G74 3.5 and a 6G75 3.8, plus the 4M41 3.2 diesel, and a shop pricing the 3.0 when the car is a 3.8 is pricing a cheaper part that will not go on. Ten seconds reading the code off the engine saves the second trip across town.

The Lancer is the honest failure on this page, and it is worth explaining rather than papering over. It was the best-selling car in the country in the middle of the last decade, which puts an enormous number of them squarely in the age where they need parts. On a Pajero it is the V6. Three of them were sold here inside one generation, and the difference between a 6G72 part and a 6G75 part is not a discount, it is a different item. Get the code into the first message and the answers that come back are comparable to each other.

On a Lancer it is age and volume. Two decades of these cars passed through this market and the yards are full of them, so panels, lamps, mirrors and interior trim carry a used price that a new-parts counter will not volunteer. Ask for both prices in the same message and set them side by side.

On an L200 it is what the truck has been doing. A pickup that has worked carries wear a private car does not, and a quote on one should say new, used or reconditioned, because all three are routinely offered on this model and a quote that says none of them has assumed the dearest.

A Mitsubishi quote worth keeping names the engine code on a Pajero, states the condition on everything else, gives a warranty in months on anything mechanical, and shows its date. Without those four, the next quote you take will not be comparable to it.
