What a gearbox costs in the UAE
Transmission prices vary more than engine prices because condition matters more — a gearbox that 'worked when removed' tells you little about its clutches and valve body. That's why the warranty and the supplier's reputation are worth more than a few hundred dirhams of price difference.

The UAE's CVT problem, honestly explained
Continuously variable transmissions run hot by design, and Gulf summers push them past their comfort zone — belt and pulley wear accelerates, fluid degrades faster, and the familiar symptoms follow: shudder from a stop, a whine that rises with speed, limp mode on the highway. Nissan's volume models (Altima, Sunny, X-Trail, Pathfinder of the 2013–2019 generations) are the best-known cases simply because there are so many of them on UAE roads; several other brands' CVTs suffer the same way.
What that means for buying: a used CVT is a gamble on how its donor car was driven and cooled. Reduce the gamble three ways — buy from a yard that specialises in your make and warranties CVTs specifically, insist on fresh genuine CVT fluid at fitting (the wrong fluid destroys a good CVT), and price a rebuilt unit before defaulting to used. On a car you plan to keep, the rebuilt premium often pays for itself.

Before you buy: match it exactly
Gearboxes are matched by the transmission code stamped on the case, together with your VIN — not by model name. A 2016 model can carry different gearboxes by engine, trim and drive type (2WD vs 4WD), and a near-miss unit may bolt up but shift wrongly or refuse to talk to your ECU.
Ask the supplier three things: the donor car's story (accident car with a healthy drivetrain is the best source), whether the torque converter is included, and the written warranty terms. As with engines, most warranties require professional fitting — and keep the fluid receipt, because a warranty claim without proof of correct fluid rarely succeeds.
