BMW spare parts in the UAE

Some BMW parts are not BMW parts. The Z4 (G29, 2019 on) shares the B58 3.0 turbo straight-six and its ancillaries, the ZF eight-speed automatic behind it, and the Magna Steyr chassis and suspension hardware underneath with the Toyota GR Supra (A90). The X5 4.4i, 540i and 740i shares the M62TU 4.4 V8 engine itself, its gaskets, timing-chain and VANOS parts, and the ZF five-speed automatic behind it with the Land Rover / Range Rover L322 4.4 (2002-2005).

Ask for the BMW number and the Toyota number together — the same box, two prices.

BMW sells the chassis code, not the name on the boot. The X5 is either the F15 from 2013 or the G05 from 2018; the X6 is the F16 from 2014; the 5 Series is the F10 from 2009 or the G30 from 2016, and the 7 Series is the G11 from 2015.

The F15 X5 is where getting that wrong costs money. It was built with the N20 B20 2.0 four, the N55 B30 3.0 straight-six and the N63 B40 4.0 V8, so a water pump, a thermostat, a filter or a gasket ordered against the badge instead of the engine code is a coin toss between three different parts.

The 3 Series is the gap, and it is a large one to admit. Neither the F30 nor the G20 carries an engine layer we can source, and nor does the older E70 X5 or any X3, so none of the four appears below even though every German-parts counter in Sharjah stocks all of them.

An X5 is not one car, so an X5 quote is not one price. A cooling job on the N20 four and the same job on the N63 V8 are different parts, different counts and different labour, and the only thing they have in common is the badge.

Give the counter the chassis code and the engine code and ask what the BMW part number is. A price quoted back against the words X5 alone is a guess with a decimal point in it, and the German-parts specialists here will tell you so themselves if you ask.
