What a UAE summer asks of a Mitsubishi cooling system

A cooling system is sized for the hardest day the engine will face, and in the UAE that day comes round every summer. The air reaching the radiator can pass 45 degrees, the AC condenser mounted in front of it adds heat of its own, and in slow traffic there is no road speed pushing air through either of them. Everything then rests on the fan, the water pump and a system that still holds its pressure.

That is why small faults show up here first. A cap that no longer seals, a hose gone soft, a fan motor turning slowly: on a mild day the engine copes, and on an August afternoon in a jam the gauge starts to climb. A Pajero towing a boat to the coast, or an L200 working loaded through the middle of the day, asks even more of the same parts.

The table below links what drivers usually notice to the part most often behind it. Treat it as a starting point for a garage, not a diagnosis: a pressure test of the cooling system finds most leaks in minutes.

Hoses, caps, thermostats and seals: the small parts that end a trip

The cheapest parts in the cooling range are the ones most likely to leave you on the hard shoulder. Rubber hoses harden with heat and age, then crack at the clamps or swell where they bend. Squeeze the large radiator hoses when the engine is cold: a healthy hose feels firm and springy, a tired one feels crunchy or soft. The heater hoses and the small bypass hoses age at the same rate and are easy to forget.

If your L200 or Pajero Sport is a turbo diesel, the hoses between the turbo, the intercooler and the engine sit in this group too, and our range carries intercooler hoses listed for both trucks. A split one leaks boost rather than coolant, so the truck feels flat and you may hear a hiss as you accelerate.

The radiator cap is a pressure valve, not a lid. Its spring holds the system above atmospheric pressure, which raises the temperature at which the coolant boils. When the seal or the spring weakens, coolant boils away at a temperature the engine should handle, often with no puddle to show for it. Match a cap by its part number, because the pressure rating is not the same on every engine.

Thermostats are specified by their opening temperature. Fit the one listed for your engine rather than a cooler one: a thermostat that opens too early does not make the engine run better, and it can upset readings the engine computer relies on. A new gasket or seal goes in with every thermostat.

Water pumps, radiators and fans on older Pajeros and Lancers

The fourth-generation Pajero went out of production in 2021, so most Pajeros on UAE roads are several years old, and a great many Lancers are older still. That is the age at which pumps, radiators and fans come due.

A water pump usually warns before it fails. The seal behind the pulley starts to weep through a small drain hole, leaving a crust of dried coolant beneath it, and the bearing may begin to rumble. On engines where the timing belt drives the water pump, a garage will normally suggest replacing both together because the labour is shared. The chassis number tells us which engine your Mitsubishi has and whether that applies to it.

Most modern radiators have an aluminium core with plastic end tanks, and years of hot coolant make the plastic brittle. A hairline crack along the seam where tank meets core is the usual end. When you order one, the gearbox matters: an automatic car's radiator often carries a cooler for the transmission fluid, so the automatic and manual versions of one car can take different radiators. Tell us whether yours is manual or automatic.

Fans come in two kinds. Most road cars use electric fans switched by the engine computer, and on a car with two fans the left and right motors can be different parts. Engines with a belt-driven fan, more common on trucks and older four-wheel drives, use a fan clutch that slips more as it wears, so the fan turns too slowly in traffic just when it is needed. A garage can test it with the engine hot.

AC parts: what this range covers and what to ask

Our Mitsubishi AC range is narrower than the cooling range. Most of it is seals, O-ring sets and smaller genuine AC parts, and condensers and compressors are a much thinner part of it. The table at the top shows what is on the shelf on its date. If your car needs a condenser or a compressor that is not listed, send the part number or the chassis number anyway and we check it against the whole range.

The O-rings that seal each AC pipe joint harden in the same heat as the hoses. A tired O-ring lets the gas seep out over weeks, and a garage that opens any AC joint should fit a fresh one from the correct size set; it is the cheapest part of the job.

Diagnose before ordering anything large. Air that turns warm at idle and cold again on the move points at airflow over the condenser, which means the fan or a condenser clogged with sand and insects, not the compressor. A system that loses its cold slowly over weeks has a leak, and the leak needs finding before any gas goes back in. AC parts can also differ between GCC-spec and imported versions of the same model, which the chassis number shows.

Genuine Mitsubishi cooling parts and the aftermarket choices

This part of our range leans towards genuine Mitsubishi parts. The aftermarket lines come mainly from FEBEST, for hoses, thermostats, AC O-ring sets and radiator mounts, and from STELLOX, for radiators, water pumps and thermostats, with a few lines from other brands. The brands column in the table at the top shows where an aftermarket option exists, and the comparison table below sets the typical genuine and aftermarket price side by side where we hold both.

Read the medians with care. Each one is taken across lines for many different engines, so it shows the size of the gap between genuine and aftermarket rather than the price of any one part. A median is not the price of your part; the quote for your chassis number is.

For a water pump or a thermostat on an engine you plan to keep, many owners choose the genuine part, because a failure there can overheat the engine. For hoses, mounts and O-rings, an aftermarket part that lists your Mitsubishi number is a reasonable saving. Ask for both on one chat and we price the exact parts for your car.

Medians across the lines we hold of each kind. A typical price is not the price of one part: two lines of the same name can be for different models.

Ordering cooling parts for your Mitsubishi

Send the chassis number from your mulkiya, with the engine size if you know it. Cooling parts change with the engine more than with the model name: a Pajero can carry a petrol V6 or a diesel, and the L200 has been sold with both petrol and turbo diesel engines, each with its own hoses, pump and thermostat.

Say manual or automatic for a radiator, and whether the car has one fan or two. For a hose, a photo of the old one in place saves a lot of back and forth, because several hoses on the same engine can look alike once they are off the car.

We supply and deliver the parts; your own garage fits them and refills the system with the coolant Mitsubishi specifies for your engine, not plain water. The shops listed below are a starting point if you need one.

Cooling parts for other makes

Mitsubishi cooling and AC parts: questions

Why does my Pajero's temperature gauge climb only in traffic?
Because at road speed the air rushing through the radiator does the work, and in traffic only the fan does. A gauge that rises in a jam and falls on the open road points at the fan, its motor, its relay or, on a belt-driven fan, the fan clutch.
Can a worn radiator cap really make a Mitsubishi overheat?
Yes. The cap holds the system under pressure, which raises the boiling point of the coolant. A cap with a weak spring or a hardened seal lets the coolant boil and escape at normal running temperature. It is one of the cheapest parts to rule out.
My Lancer keeps losing coolant but leaves no puddle. Where is it going?
Usually out through a weak radiator cap as vapour, or through a small weep at a hose or the water pump that dries before it drips. A pressure test finds both. If neither shows, a garage should check the heater and, in the worst case, the head gasket.
Should the water pump be changed with the timing belt?
On engines where the timing belt drives the water pump, most garages advise doing both together, because the labour overlaps almost completely. Send the chassis number and we confirm which engine your Mitsubishi has and quote the pump to match.
Do you have AC compressors and condensers for Mitsubishis?
They are a thin part of our range. The table at the top shows what is on the shelf on its date. Send your chassis number or the old part number and we check it against everything we hold before we say yes or no.
My L200 lost power and hisses when I accelerate. Is that a cooling part?
On a turbo diesel it is often a split intercooler hose, which sits in this group even though it carries air, not coolant. Our range carries intercooler hoses listed for the L200 and Pajero Sport. Send a photo of the hose and the chassis number.
Is it safe to open a hot Mitsubishi radiator to top it up?
No. The system is under pressure when hot, and opening it can spray scalding coolant. Let the engine cool fully first, top up with the coolant Mitsubishi specifies, and treat any need for regular topping up as a leak to find.
Does an automatic Mitsubishi need a different radiator from a manual?
Often, yes. Many automatic cars run their transmission fluid through a cooler built into the radiator, so the automatic radiator has extra pipe connections. The two are often listed as separate part numbers, so tell us which gearbox you have.
Why do you need the chassis number for a thermostat?
Because the thermostat follows the engine, not the model name, and one Mitsubishi model can carry several engines across its years and markets. The chassis number on the mulkiya tells us which engine is fitted, so the thermostat we quote opens at the right temperature.
How do I order a cooling part and pay for it?
Send the chassis number and the part or the symptom on WhatsApp. We check the part against your car and send the price with a card payment link. The stock line near the top shows the delivery window as of its date.
Do you fit radiators and water pumps?
No. We supply and deliver new parts, and your own garage fits them and refills the system. The shops listed lower on this page are a starting point, and any of them can pressure test the system before you order.
Are the Mitsubishi cooling parts on this page new?
Yes. Every line on this page is a new part, genuine Mitsubishi or aftermarket. We match each one to your chassis number before we quote, so the part that arrives is the one listed for your car.
