Which Toyota you drive decides how its brakes wear
Brake wear on a Toyota in the UAE depends less on the badge than on the weight of the car and the kind of day it has. A Corolla or Yaris on school runs through Sharjah traffic stops and starts constantly at low speed. A Land Cruiser or Prado is a far heavier vehicle, often loaded with family and luggage, sometimes towing a boat trailer, and sometimes coming down off the sand with hot brakes. A Camry on a long motorway commute stops less often, but harder and from higher speed.
On all of them the front axle does most of the stopping, so the front pads are usually the first brake part to go. What changes is what goes with them. On the heavy four-wheel drives the front discs work hard enough that they often need replacing with the pads. On the lighter cars a front disc that is still above its minimum thickness can carry on through another set of pads.
| Toyota family | Typical UAE use | What wears first | Worth asking about |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corolla, Yaris, Auris | City traffic, short trips, school runs | Front pads, then front discs | Whether the rear has shoes or pads |
| Camry, Avalon | Commuting, harder stops from speed | Front pads and front discs | New pad clips and shims to keep the set quiet |
| RAV4, Highlander, Harrier | Family loads, mixed city and highway | Front pads first | Parking brake shoes inside the rear disc, where fitted |
| Land Cruiser, Prado, Fortuner | Heavy loads, towing, sand, long descents | Front pads and discs together | Pad clips, springs and caliper boots, which heat and sand attack |
| Hybrid versions such as the Camry Hybrid | Slow partly on the electric motor | Pads usually last longer than on the petrol car | Disc condition, checked rather than assumed |
From the noise or the pedal feel to the Toyota brake part
Brakes give plenty of warning, and each warning points at a short list of parts. The table below is the order we work through on a chat. A garage confirms it with the wheel off in a few minutes: pad thickness, disc thickness against the minimum figure stamped on the disc, and whether the caliper slides freely on its pins.
If you are not sure what you are hearing, send a short clip with the sound on while you brake gently across a car park, a photo of the disc face through the wheel, and the chassis number. That is usually enough for us to say which part to price, and which axle.
| What you notice | Usually | Send us |
|---|---|---|
| High squeal under light braking | Pad wear tab touching the disc, or tired clips and shims | Which axle, and when the pads were last changed |
| Grinding or scraping metal | Pads worn through to the backing plate | A photo of the disc face; plan on pads and discs |
| Steering shake or pulsing pedal braking from speed | Uneven thickness across the front discs | Whether you feel it in the wheel or the seat |
| Car pulls to one side under braking | A sticking caliper piston or slide on one side | Which way it pulls, and whether one wheel smells hot |
| Inner pad far thinner than the outer one | Caliper slide pins or their bushings seized | The old pads, photographed side by side |
| Handbrake weak or lever travels too far | Rear shoes worn or out of adjustment | Whether the rear has drums or discs |
| Soft or sinking pedal | A fluid leak at a cylinder, caliper or hose | Nothing yet: have it checked before driving on |
Heat, sand and stop-start traffic on Toyota brakes
Brakes work by turning speed into heat, and a UAE summer leaves less room for that heat to go. Pads and discs that start the day warm from the air and the tarmac climb higher in traffic, and a run of close stops on a busy road gives them little time to cool between them. A pad that spends too long too hot can glaze, leaving a shiny face that grips less and squeals more.
Sand is the quieter problem. Fine dust settles in the caliper slides and on the rubber boots that seal them. Once a boot cracks in the sun, dust mixes with the grease and the slide begins to stick, so one pad drags and wears out early. On a Land Cruiser, Prado or Fortuner that goes into the desert, rinsing the wheels and calipers after a sand trip costs nothing, and renewing a split boot costs far less than a caliper.
Long descents matter too. Coming down Jebel Jais or Jebel Hafeet in a loaded four-wheel drive, select a lower gear so the engine holds the car, and brake in firm, short applications rather than resting a foot on the pedal all the way down.
Genuine Toyota or aftermarket brakes: where each makes sense
Both are on the shelf, and the comparison table under this section shows the typical price of each kind in our own stock, for the part types where we hold enough of both. Pad sets are not in it, because the pad lines are counted together with their clips and springs. Genuine Toyota parts make up a large share of the brake range, particularly pads, discs and shoes, so for most popular models we can quote the genuine part and an aftermarket alternative on the same chat.
For pads, the choice comes down to how the car is used. On a heavy Land Cruiser or Prado that tows or carries full loads, many owners stay with genuine Toyota pads and discs. On a Corolla, Yaris or Camry in city use, an aftermarket pad from an established brand is a reasonable saving, as long as both wheels on the axle get the same pads. The aftermarket brands we hold for each part type are listed in the stock table near the top of the page.
Calipers are a different case. Most of our caliper lines are the small parts that keep a caliper working, such as slide pin bushings and caliper hardware, largely from FEBEST, a brand built around rubber-to-metal parts and repair kits. Renewing those often saves the caliper itself. When the caliper body or piston is damaged, we can price a complete genuine caliper on request.
One caution when reading the comparison table: a typical price summarises whatever mix of lines each side holds. The quote we send is for the exact part that matches your chassis number, genuine and aftermarket side by side, and that is the difference worth comparing.
| Part | Genuine Toyota, typical | Aftermarket, typical |
|---|---|---|
| Brake calipers and caliper parts | AED 124 | AED 29 |
| Brake discs | AED 124 | AED 86 |
| Brake cylinders | AED 182 | AED 54 |
Medians across the lines we hold of each kind. A typical price is not the price of one part: two lines of the same name can be for different models.
Ordering a complete Toyota brake job, not half of one
On Toyota's own numbering, front disc pad kits normally carry part numbers starting 04465 and rear kits 04466. If you have the old box or a quote from a garage, that prefix is a quick check that the pads are for the right end of the car.
The clips, shims and anti-rattle springs that keep pads quiet are often separate Toyota part numbers, and new pads fitted on old, weakened clips are a common cause of squeal. We hold aftermarket clip sets and springs for many models, so ask for them with the pads rather than after the noise starts.
Pads are sold and fitted in axle sets, both wheels at once. Discs should be renewed as a pair, and new pads on discs below their minimum thickness will not last. Where the rear brakes are drums, check the shoes and the wheel cylinders behind them together, because a weeping cylinder soaks new linings. Some Toyotas with rear discs also carry small parking brake shoes inside the rear disc, and a weak handbrake on one of those usually means those shoes or their adjustment, not the pads.
Send the chassis number from your mulkiya and say which axle. One Toyota model name can carry more than one brake size depending on engine, wheel size and market, and a US or Japanese import can differ from the GCC version of the same year. Matching the part to the chassis number settles all of that before you pay.

Toyota brake parts: questions
- Which Toyota brake parts do you keep on the shelf?
- Front and rear pad sets, discs, drum brake shoes, brake cylinders, caliper slide parts and pad fittings such as clips and springs, in genuine Toyota and aftermarket brands. Brake hoses and drums are a small part of the range, so send the number and we check.
- How can I tell whether my Toyota needs pads only, or pads and discs?
- A garage measures the disc against the minimum thickness stamped on it and looks for a raised lip at the edge, deep grooves or blue heat marks. If the pads have worn down to metal, plan on new discs as well, because the backing plate has usually scored them.
- Is a Prado brake pad the same as a Fortuner or Hilux one?
- Sometimes. One aftermarket front pad kit in the maker's catalogue lists the Prado, Hilux, Fortuner and FJ Cruiser together, but other years and versions use different pads. We check the exact part against your chassis number before we quote, so you are not relying on a shared name.
- Why does my Camry squeal after new brake pads were fitted?
- The usual causes are old clips or shims reused with the new pads, a glazed disc that was not resurfaced or replaced, or pads that were not bedded in. Ask us for the matching clip set with the pads, and ask the garage to clean the slides and bed the new set in gently.
- Do Toyota hybrids use different brake parts from the petrol models?
- They can, so the chassis number matters. A Toyota hybrid also slows partly through its electric motor, which takes a share of the work off the friction brakes, so pads usually last longer. That is not a reason to skip checks: discs and slides still need looking at.
- My Toyota handbrake does not hold properly. Which part is it?
- On cars with rear drums it is usually the rear shoes or their adjustment. On many cars with rear discs the handbrake works a small set of shoes inside the rear disc. Tell us which you have, or send the chassis number, and we price the right shoes and any fittings.
- Can I buy the caliper slide pins, bushings and boots on their own?
- For many Toyota models, yes. A garage cleans the slides, fits the new bushings or boots and greases them with brake-specific grease, which often cures uneven pad wear and pulling without a new caliper. Send the chassis number and say which axle.
- How soon will a Toyota brake order reach me?
- Everything on this page is held in UAE stock, and the stock line under the quick answer shows the delivery window as of the date printed beside it. Tell us your emirate on WhatsApp and we confirm the day when we send the quote.
- Who fits the brake parts I order from you?
- Your own garage. We sell the parts and deliver them across the UAE, and the shops listed further down this page are one place to start if you need a garage. A mechanic can also confirm the worn part with the wheel off before you order.
- How do I pay for Toyota brake parts ordered on WhatsApp?
- Once we have checked the part against your chassis number and you are happy with the quote, we send a card payment link on the same chat. You pay online, and we confirm the order and the delivery day straight after.
- Are the Toyota brake parts on this page new?
- Yes. Everything we sell on this page is new, either genuine Toyota or a named aftermarket brand. We do not offer second-hand brake parts, because pads, discs and cylinders are wear and safety parts with no history you can check.
