Discs at the front, and drums on some smaller Hyundais
Hyundai's cars and SUVs here brake with discs at the front. The rear is where the range splits. The 2021 generation Elantra, for example, has discs at both ends, while the US-market 2018 Accent in its base SE trim was specified with drums at the rear. Our shelf reflects that: the part makers list the shoe fitting kits we hold for smaller cars, with the Accent and the Creta among the models they fit.
A drum rear is not a lesser brake for a light car in city traffic, but it is a different shopping list. Shoes wear slowly and evenly, and what usually fails first is the hardware around them: the return springs, the self-adjuster that keeps the shoes close to the drum, and the wheel cylinder that pushes them out. When the handbrake lever starts coming up further than it used to on an Accent, a seized adjuster or a tired spring is a likelier cause than worn linings.
On rear-disc Hyundais, ask yourself one question before ordering rear pads: is the handbrake a lever or a switch? A switch means an electronic parking brake, usually with a motor on each rear caliper, and the garage needs a diagnostic tool to wind the pistons back before the new pads will fit.
| Job | Parts that belong in the same order | Tell us |
|---|---|---|
| Front pads | Pad set with shims, anti-rattle clips, slide pin boots if split | Whether the discs are scored or lipped |
| Rear pads on a rear-disc car | Pad set and clip set | Handbrake lever or switch |
| Rear shoes on a drum car | Shoe set, fitting kit of springs and adjuster parts, wheel cylinder if damp | Whether the drum shows a wet patch inside |
| Discs | A pair across the axle, with new pads | Front or rear, and the trim |
| Car pulls when braking | Slide pin bushes and boots, or a hose | Which way it pulls |
| Soft or sinking pedal | Fluid first, then a hose or the master cylinder | Any wet marks near a wheel or under the bonnet |
Fleet miles, van loads and red lights
Hyundai brakes in the UAE lead hard lives. A rental or ride-hailing Accent or Elantra may brake from city speed to a stop hundreds of times in a shift, and every stop turns speed into heat in the pads and discs. Long queues at signals in summer mean the hardware sits hot with the pedal held, which can leave pad material on a disc and start a judder.
The H-1, in its Cargo and Travel versions, appears in the fit lists of many lines on our shelf, and it is the clearest case of load. A van that carries a full row of passengers or a floor of stock asks far more of its pads than the same van running empty, and front pads on working vans usually go well before the rear. On a heavier saloon such as the Grandeur, or a loaded Santa Fe on a mountain road, the rear brakes earn their keep too.
Dust is the quiet enemy. Caliper slide pins need to move freely in their bushes so that both pads press evenly. Once a rubber boot cracks in the heat and sand gets in, the pin sticks, one pad wears faster than its partner, and the car begins to pull. The caliper lines on our shelf lean the same way: mostly the small parts, boots and bushes, rather than whole calipers.
Squeal, grind or judder: matching the sound to the part
Brake noises are specific, and most of them have a cheap answer if they are caught early. Use the table as a guide, then have a garage look at the pads through the wheel before you buy, because the thickness left on the pads tells you more than any sound.
| What happens | Likely part | What to send us |
|---|---|---|
| Thin squeal while driving that stops when you brake | Pad wear indicator touching the disc | A photo of the pads through the wheel |
| Rattle from a wheel over rough ground | Missing or loose anti-rattle clips | Front or rear, and the side |
| Grinding under braking | Pads worn to the backing plate, discs probably damaged | Stop driving far and send the chassis number |
| Shudder through the pedal or steering from speed | Uneven disc surface | Discs and pads as an axle set |
| Weak handbrake on a drum-brake Accent | Shoes out of adjustment, seized adjuster | Shoe fitting kit and the shoes if thin |
| New pads squeal from day one | No shims, dry slide pins, or not bedded in | Whether the old shims were refitted |
Genuine Hyundai pads or aftermarket: how to decide
We hold genuine Hyundai pads alongside aftermarket pads from FEBEST, STELLOX and J1 BRAKES. Ask for both prices for your exact pad on the same chat, and read any gap with your car's job in mind rather than as a verdict on quality.
For a privately owned Tucson, Santa Fe or Grandeur that carries passengers fast on the highway, genuine pads are an easy choice: they are the pads the car was developed and tested with. For a high-mileage Accent or Elantra changing pads often, a correctly specified aftermarket pad set that comes with its shims and clips is a reasonable way to keep the running cost down. What we would avoid is mixing: put the same pad on both sides of an axle, always.
The small fittings are where aftermarket makes the most sense. Slide pin boots and bushes, anti-rattle springs and clip sets are simple parts, and FEBEST, a brand built around rubber-to-metal and chassis parts, covers many Hyundais with them. If you want a genuine Hyundai disc, caliper or hose that the tables do not show, ask and we price it on request.
What we need from you, and what the garage should do
Send the chassis number from the mulkiya, say which axle, and if you can, a photo of the wheel showing the disc and caliper. The chassis number matters more on brakes than almost anywhere else, because disc size and pad shape can change between trims and market versions of the same model, and a GCC car and a US import of the same year do not always share a pad.
Our part of the job ends when the parts reach you or your garage; the fitting is theirs. A careful job on a Hyundai includes cleaning and greasing the slide pins, fitting new boots if the old ones are split, refitting or replacing the pad shims, checking the fluid level and colour, and bedding the new pads in with a series of moderate stops. On cars with the electronic handbrake, the tool comes first and the spanners second.

Hyundai brake parts: questions
- Does my Hyundai Accent have drums or discs at the rear?
- It depends on the year, trim and market. The US-market 2018 Accent in its base SE trim was specified with rear drums, and other versions can have discs. The chassis number answers it, or send a photo through the rear wheel: a drum looks like a closed round housing with no caliper.
- Why do my new Hyundai brake pads squeal?
- Usually the shims were not refitted, the slide pins were left dry, or the pads were never bedded in. Pad sets that come with their shims and a fresh clip set solve most of it. Tell us what came off the car and we match the fitting parts.
- Can I replace the slide pin boots without a new caliper?
- Yes, if the pin itself is not badly corroded and the piston still moves freely. Boots and bushes are sold on their own and cost little. A seized piston or a leaking piston seal is a different job and usually means a caliper.
- My Hyundai has an electronic handbrake. Can a normal garage change the rear pads?
- Yes, as long as it has a diagnostic tool that can put the rear calipers into service mode. Forcing the pistons back without it can damage the caliper motor. Ask your garage before booking, and tell us it is a switch handbrake when you order.
- Do you keep brake parts for the H-1 van?
- The fit lists for many of our lines name the H-1 Cargo and H-1 Travel. Send the chassis number and tell us whether it is front pads, rear pads or shoes, and we confirm what is on the shelf for that exact van.
- What comes in a Hyundai brake shoe fitting kit?
- The springs, pins and clips that hold the shoes in place, and depending on the kit, parts of the self-adjuster. Contents differ by model, so we confirm what is in the kit for your car when we quote. A new kit is worth fitting whenever the shoes are changed.
- Do I have to replace the discs every time I change pads?
- No. A garage measures the disc thickness against the minimum stamped on the disc, and checks for deep scoring, a lip at the edge or a judder. If the disc passes, new pads alone are fine. If it fails, change both discs on that axle.
- My Elantra pulls to one side when I brake. Which part should I order?
- The car pulls toward the side that is braking harder, which usually means the other side is not doing its share. Sticking slide pins are the most common reason, then a collapsing hose or a seized caliper piston. Have the garage confirm which before ordering.
- Are genuine Hyundai pads worth it on a car that does fleet mileage?
- It is a judgement on cost per kilometre. Genuine pads suit the car exactly; a correctly specified aftermarket pad with its fittings is a reasonable choice when pads are changed often. Ask us for both prices on the same chat and decide with the numbers in front of you.
- How often should a Hyundai's brake fluid be changed?
- Use the interval in your owner's manual or service booklet. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point, so a hot climate is no reason to stretch it. Dark fluid is a sign it is overdue, and a soft pedal is a reason to have the brakes checked straight away.
- How do I order Hyundai brake parts and get them delivered?
- Message us on WhatsApp with the chassis number and the job. We match the parts, quote, and send a card payment link. The stock line near the top shows how soon parts are ready as of its date, and we confirm the delivery day for your emirate.
