Exide

Exide car batteries in the UAE

Starter batteries for cars and commercial vehicles

Exide is a trademark of its owner. We are not an authorised Exide dealer or distributor, and nothing here is endorsed by them. The name and mark are shown to say which parts we quote and source.

The quick answer

Exide is a battery name shared by two unrelated companies, and both of them reach this market. Exide Technologies traces itself to 1888 and runs Europe, the Middle East and Africa and Asia-Pacific; Exide Industries Limited is a separate listed Indian company in Kolkata that names the United Arab Emirates among its 66 export markets. Neither publishes a UAE distributor. So the useful question at a counter is not whether Exide is a good battery, it is which Exide you are being handed and where it was built, and the answer to that is on the battery rather than on any web page.

Key facts

  • Exide Technologies dates itself to 1888, when W. W. Gibbs founded its predecessor, the Electric Storage Battery Company. Its three regions are Asia Pacific, Europe, and Middle East and Africa.
  • Exide Industries Limited is a different company: an Indian listed business headquartered in Kolkata, which names the United Arab Emirates in its own list of 66 export countries and regions.
  • Exide Technologies' brand portfolio is Exide, Deta, Tudor, Fulmen, Centra and Sonnak. Exide Industries exports under Exide, Index, Dynex, SF Sonic, Dagenite, Jupiter, Chloride, CEIL and Black Panther.
  • Exide Technologies names its OE customers on its own site, and says it supplies over 75 percent of the European car and truck manufacturers.
  • That customer list is not only car makers. It includes boat builders, agricultural and construction machinery makers and truck manufacturers, so reading it as a list of cars is a mistake.
  • Exide Technologies says its first-brand aftermarket batteries are designed to the same quality and standards as its OE batteries and are manufactured on the same production lines.
  • Exide says it invented the enhanced flooded battery in 2008 and developed it in partnership with major European car manufacturers.
  • Neither Exide company names a UAE distributor, office or importer on any page we could read.

Original equipment

  • Mercedes Benz

Named on Exide Technologies' own OE manufacturer page as a customer. This is Exide Technologies' list rather than Exide Industries', and it names the manufacturer only — no model, no model year and no part number.

Source: Exide Technologies — OE manufacturer page, the named customer list and the European supply share claim, read 2026-09-03

  • BMW

Named as a customer on Exide Technologies' own OE page, alongside Mini. A customer relationship is not a statement that a particular BMW left the factory on an Exide, and Exide does not publish that level of detail.

  • Volkswagen Group

Named on Exide Technologies' own OE page. The entry is at group level, which is how Exide writes it, and it covers no specific marque within the group by name.

  • Toyota

Named as a customer on Exide Technologies' own OE page, alongside Hyundai, Kia, Nissan and Suzuki. Relevant to this market because those are the marques the UAE car parc is built on, and still a customer list rather than a fitment claim.

  • Scania

Named among the commercial vehicle customers, with MAN, Iveco, Renault Trucks and Volvo Trucks. Truck battery programmes are a separate business from passenger cars and should not be read across to either.

  • John Deere

Named on the same page as Case, Claas, New Holland and Same Deutz Fahr. These are agricultural and construction machinery makers, and their presence is why the list must not be described as a list of car brands.

  • Beneteau

Named alongside Jeanneau. Both build boats. They are on the list because Exide supplies marine batteries, and they are the clearest evidence that this is a customer list across several industries rather than an automotive fitment guide.

Four qualifications travel with the table above and none of them is optional. First, it is Exide Technologies' list. If the battery in front of you is an Exide Industries export from India, this table does not describe it. Second, it is not a list of car makers: boat builders, tractor and combine makers and truck manufacturers are on it, because Exide supplies those industries too. Third, Saab has not built a car in over a decade and is still on the page, which tells you the list is a cumulative record rather than a live roster. Fourth and most importantly, Exide names customers and stops. No model, no model year, no part number. The sentence your car came with an Exide is not on that page and is not on this one.

Where it is made

This record names no manufacturing country, and on this brand that gap is the story rather than a footnote. Neither company publishes a plant map we could read first-party: Exide Technologies' own about page carries no plant count and its locations page did not resolve, and Exide Industries publishes export markets rather than a factory list. There is a Made in Europe brochure title associated with Exide Technologies, and we are deliberately not printing it as an origin claim for stock sold here, because an Indian Exide reaches this market too and a European origin line would then be actively misleading. The country of origin on an Exide box is worth reading. It is just not something we can tell you in advance.

Exide in the UAE

Neither Exide company names a UAE distributor, importer or office. Exide Technologies lists Middle East and Africa as one of its three regions without naming an entity in it; Exide Industries names the United Arab Emirates in its export list without naming who imports there. Several UAE battery retailers and trading businesses describe themselves as Exide distributors. None of those claims is verified by either manufacturer, and on a brand where two separate companies are entitled to the same name, an unverified distributor claim is worth even less than usual: it does not tell you which Exide the seller is authorised on. So no shop is named here.

One name, two companies, and both of them sell here

Almost everything written about Exide online is written as though Exide were one manufacturer. It is not, and for a buyer in the UAE that is not a piece of corporate trivia, it is the single most useful thing on this page.

Exide Technologies dates itself to 1888, when W. W. Gibbs founded the Electric Storage Battery Company, its predecessor. It runs three regions on its own site: Asia Pacific, Europe, and Middle East and Africa. Its brand portfolio is Exide, Deta, Tudor, Fulmen, Centra and Sonnak.

Exide Industries Limited is a different company. It is an Indian listed business headquartered in Kolkata, and its own international business page says it exports to 66 countries and regions and names the United Arab Emirates in that list, alongside Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Its export brands are Exide, Index, Dynex, SF Sonic, Dagenite, Jupiter, Chloride, CEIL and Black Panther.

Put those two paragraphs beside each other and the consequence is unavoidable. Exide Technologies says this region is one of its three markets. Exide Industries says this country is one of its export destinations. Both statements come from the companies themselves. So an Exide battery on a shelf in Sharjah may be either, both are legitimately entitled to the name in their own lanes, and no page on the internet, including this one, can tell you which one you are looking at.

There is a third lane worth one line so it does not confuse you when you read American material. Exide Technologies' Americas assets were bought out of bankruptcy in 2020 and became Stryten, which is why United States sources describe the Exide situation differently again. That is reported by third parties rather than published by the company, and it does not affect what is sold here.

Why two companies have the same name

The short version is that the name travelled and the ownership did not. The longer version is a trademark history that ran through the Indian courts for years, and it was settled out of court in 2017, with Exide Industries left holding the Exide mark in India and Exide Technologies waiving its claim there.

Two cautions on that paragraph, and both matter. It is reported by legal commentators and the business press rather than published by either company, so treat it as third-party. And it concerns India. It says nothing about who holds the Exide trademark in the United Arab Emirates or anywhere else in the Gulf, and we did not research Gulf registrations at all. Anyone who tells you an Indian settlement decides who may sell Exide here is extending a document a very long way past what it says.

What the history does usefully explain is why the confusion is structural rather than accidental. Neither company is passing itself off as the other. Two real manufacturers with a shared ancestry both own the name in their own territories, and both ship into a market that sits between those territories.

The customer list, and the four things it does not say

Exide Technologies does something most battery manufacturers will not: it names its original-equipment customers on its own site, and it says it supplies over 75 percent of the European car and truck manufacturers. The list is long. Alfa Romeo, BMW, Citroen, Dacia, Fiat, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Lancia, Land Rover, Mercedes Benz, Mini, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Saab, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen Group and Volvo are all on it, and so are Iveco, MAN, Renault Trucks, Scania and Volvo Trucks.

It is a genuinely strong piece of evidence and it comes with four boundaries.

The first is whose list it is. This is Exide Technologies. If the battery in front of you came from Exide Industries in India, none of these names describes it, and the page you are reading it from is not the company that built it.

The second is that it is not a list of car makers. Beneteau and Jeanneau build boats. Case, Claas, John Deere, New Holland and Same Deutz Fahr build agricultural and construction machinery. Describing the whole list as car brands Exide supplies is the kind of error a trade reader spots in a second, and it would misrepresent what is a multi-industry customer roster.

The third is Saab, which has not built a car for over a decade and is still on the page. That is not a criticism; it tells you the list is a cumulative record of who Exide has supplied rather than a snapshot of who it supplies this quarter.

The fourth is the one that actually decides a purchase. Exide names customers. It does not name models, model years, plants or part numbers. Between a manufacturer being an Exide customer and your specific car having left the line with an Exide in it there is a gap that only the vehicle manufacturer's own catalogue can close.

The range is a grid, not a ladder

Most battery brands are read as a ladder: cheap at the bottom, expensive at the top, pick a rung according to budget. Exide's light-vehicle range does not work that way and misreading it is how people end up paying for the wrong thing.

There are two independent axes. The first is technology, which the car decides: absorbent glass mat, enhanced flooded, or conventional flooded. The second is trim within the conventional flooded family, where Exide sells Premium, Excell and Classic. Premium is not an upgrade over AGM and Classic is not a cheaper AGM. They are on a different axis entirely, and a start-stop car does not become a conventional car because a Premium battery is on offer.

So the order of the decision is fixed. First establish what technology the vehicle was specified for, which is a question about the car and is answered by the handbook or by the label on the battery coming out. Only once that is settled does the Premium, Excell or Classic question arise, and only if the answer to the first question was conventional flooded.

What each of those technologies is, and why fitting the wrong one damages a start-stop system, is a battery question rather than an Exide question, and it belongs on the battery hub rather than on a brand page. What is specific to Exide, and worth carrying, is the grid.

Carbon Boost, the enhanced flooded claim, and one phrase to keep in quotation marks

Two claims on the Exide range are worth naming because they are Exide's own and they are unusually specific.

The first is Carbon Boost 2.0, which sits on the Premium line and which Exide says recharges up to two times faster. That is a claim about recharge speed rather than about capacity or lifespan, and recharge speed is precisely what short journeys punish. A car that does ten minutes to the shops and back never gives the alternator long enough to replace what starting took, and a battery that recovers faster is addressing that specific failure rather than a general one.

The second is the enhanced flooded battery itself. Exide states that it invented the EFB in 2008 and developed it in partnership with major European car manufacturers, and describes it as combining 3DX grid plates with higher-density active material and additives to give high dynamic charge acceptance over the life of the battery. It also says the line suits vehicles both with and without start-stop systems, which is a wider claim than most EFB ranges make for themselves.

And then there is one phrase that must stay in quotation marks. Exide describes the Premium line as designed to withstand extreme temperature, power-hungry electrical equipment and intensive urban driving. Those are Exide's words about its own product. They are not a measurement, they are not specific to the Gulf, and this page is not going to convert them into a finding that Exide batteries last longer in UAE heat. Nobody has published that comparison, and inventing a heat verdict for a market where heat kills batteries would be the most consequential wrong sentence on the page.

Which Exide is in front of you

Everything above resolves into one practical routine, and it takes about a minute at the counter.

Read the battery, not the shelf. Look for the manufacturer name and the country of origin printed on the case, rather than only the Exide logo on the top. A battery from Exide Technologies and a battery from Exide Industries are both genuine Exides and they are different products from different companies with different warranties, and the case is where that gets settled.

Ask who imported it. Not as a challenge, but because the answer usually tells you which lane the stock came through, and a shop that knows its own supply chain will answer it in one sentence.

Check the date code. This applies to any battery bought anywhere, and it applies double in this market: a battery loses part of its service life sitting on a shelf in the heat before anyone fits it, and on a brand supplied through more than one channel, older stock is more likely rather than less.

Then settle the technology from the car, using the label on the battery coming out or the handbook, and only then discuss trim and warranty. If a seller cannot tell you which Exide company made the battery they are selling, that is not proof of anything dishonest. It is simply a question they should be able to answer, and it is the one question on this page that nobody can answer for you in advance.

Shops for batteries in the UAE

These shops are here because their recorded stock covers at least one of car battery and batteries — not because we have confirmed that each one carries Exide. We hold no reliable shop-by-shop record of which brands are on which shelf, so ring or message before you travel.

Where to actually buy this

Shops whose own website lists these parts, or whose stock we have recorded ourselves. Last checked July 2026. Not paid placement.

Exide — common questions

Is Exide one company?
No. Exide Technologies runs Europe, the Middle East and Africa and Asia-Pacific and traces itself to 1888. Exide Industries Limited is a separate Indian listed company in Kolkata. Both are real manufacturers, both are entitled to the name in their own territories, and both reach this region on their own published statements.
Which Exide is sold in the UAE?
Both may be. Exide Technologies lists Middle East and Africa as one of its three regions, and Exide Industries names the United Arab Emirates among its 66 export markets. Neither publishes a UAE distributor, and no source we found says what the split is on local shelves. The answer for a specific battery is printed on the battery, not on a website.
Why do two companies use the Exide name?
A shared ancestry and a long trademark history. The Indian dispute was settled out of court in 2017, leaving Exide Industries with the mark in India and Exide Technologies waiving its claim there. That is third-party reporting rather than a company statement, and it concerns India only. It says nothing about who holds the name in the Gulf.
Which car makers use Exide batteries at the factory?
Exide Technologies names its customers on its own site, including Alfa Romeo, BMW, Citroen, Dacia, Fiat, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover, Mercedes Benz, Mini, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen Group and Volvo, plus truck makers, and it says it supplies over 75 percent of European car and truck manufacturers. It names no models, model years or part numbers, and it is Exide Technologies' list rather than Exide Industries'.
Are boat and tractor makers really on Exide's customer list?
Yes, and it matters. Beneteau and Jeanneau build boats; Case, Claas, John Deere, New Holland and Same Deutz Fahr build agricultural and construction machinery. Exide supplies those industries too, so anyone describing the whole list as car brands has misread it.
What is the difference between Exide Premium, Excell and Classic?
They are trims within the conventional flooded family, not steps above or below AGM. Premium carries Carbon Boost 2.0 and is described by Exide as recharging up to two times faster; Excell is described as the proven all-rounder for most modern vehicles; Classic is the entry line. Technology is decided by the car first, and only then does the trim question arise.
Did Exide invent the EFB battery?
Exide says so. Its own technology page states the enhanced flooded battery was first invented by Exide in 2008 and developed in partnership with major European car manufacturers, and describes it as combining 3DX grid plates with higher-density active material and additives. It also says the line suits vehicles both with and without start-stop.
Is an Exide battery better in UAE heat?
We are not going to say that. Exide describes its Premium line as designed to withstand extreme temperature, power-hungry electrical equipment and intensive urban driving, and those are Exide's words about its own product rather than a measurement or a Gulf comparison. No published test we found compares battery brands in this climate, and inventing one would be the most damaging wrong sentence on this page.
Where are Exide batteries made?
We could not establish it. Neither company publishes a plant map we could read first-party. There is a Made in Europe brochure title associated with Exide Technologies which we have deliberately not used as an origin claim for stock sold here, because an Indian Exide reaches this market as well. Read the country printed on the case of the battery you are actually being sold.
Does Exide have an authorised distributor in the UAE?
Neither company names one. Several UAE battery retailers describe themselves that way, and none of those claims is verified by either manufacturer. On a brand where two companies share a name, an unverified distributor claim is worth less than usual, because it does not even tell you which Exide the seller is authorised on.
What are Tudor, Fulmen, Centra, SF Sonic and Dynex?
They are sibling brands. Exide Technologies' portfolio is Exide, Deta, Tudor, Fulmen, Centra and Sonnak. Exide Industries exports under Exide, Index, Dynex, SF Sonic, Dagenite, Jupiter, Chloride, CEIL and Black Panther. Seeing one of those names beside an Exide box is a clue about which company's supply chain the stock came through.
