Brembo brakes in the UAE

Brake discs, pads, calipers and complete braking systems

Brembo is a trademark of its owner. We are not an authorised Brembo dealer or distributor, and nothing here is endorsed by them. The name and mark are shown to say which parts we quote and source.

The quick answer

Brembo was founded on 11 January 1961 in Paladina, in the province of Bergamo in Italy, by Emilio Bombassei and Italo Breda, and it now makes brake discs, pads, calipers and complete braking systems for road cars, motorcycles and racing. Its aftermarket car catalogue is organised into four lines rather than the two most people expect: Prime for everyday road use, Beyond for electric and long-mileage cars, Xtra for drilled or slotted discs and sport pads, and Upgrade for big brake kits and carbon-ceramic discs. The single most useful thing to understand before buying is that a Brembo caliper fitted at the factory and a Brembo aftermarket line are two separate things.

Key facts

  • Brembo was established on 11 January 1961 in Paladina, in the province of Bergamo, Italy, by Emilio Bombassei and Italo Breda.
  • Its aftermarket car range is four lines, not two: Prime, Beyond, Xtra and Upgrade. A page or a shop that describes the choice as Brembo versus Brembo Xtra is working from an older line-up.
  • Brembo colour-codes its pads so the line is identifiable in the hand: the shim is black on Prime, red on Xtra and silver on Beyond, and the backing plate is black for low-metallic, grey for the ceramic and organic compounds, blue for the Beyond electric-vehicle pad and green for Beyond Greenance.
  • Brembo manufactures in around ten countries, Italy among them, so a genuine Brembo part can be boxed a long way from Bergamo.
  • Brembo is the braking systems provider for Formula One, and also supplies MotoGP, IndyCar and Formula E.
  • The group owns other braking and chassis names: AP Racing, J.Juan, Marchesini, ByBre and SBS Friction, and it acquired the Swedish suspension maker Ohlins in October 2024 for 405 million dollars.
  • Brembo's earliest supply contracts are dated: Alfa Romeo in 1964, three years after the company was founded, and Moto Guzzi in 1966.

Car that stands for weeks at a time and the disc faces surface-rust between usesBeyondThis is the line Brembo builds around coated discs and long service life, which is the condition a lightly used car in this climate actually meets.
Road car, owner wants drilled or slotted discs and coloured calipersXtraBrembo positions Xtra on quality, reliability and style. Treat it as a specification and an appearance choice rather than as a heat fix.
Track days, or a build where the standard braking system is the limiting componentUpgradeBig brake kits and carbon-ceramic discs. This is a system change, not a pad swap, and it needs wheel clearance checked before anything is ordered.

The range descriptions are the manufacturer’s. Matching them to a car is our guidance, and it is a starting point rather than a fitment check — the part number is what actually decides. Send us the make, model and year and we will confirm it.

Original equipment

  • Alfa Romeo

Brembo's first vehicle-manufacturer supply contract, entered into in 1964, three years after the company was founded. This is the relationship that turned a small Bergamo machine shop into a brake supplier.

Source: Brembo — company history, early supply contracts, group brands and manufacturing countries (third-party), read 2026-09-02

  • Moto Guzzi

Brembo became Moto Guzzi's brake component supplier in 1966. It is a motorcycle rather than a car contract, and it is here because it is the second dated relationship in Brembo's history and it is what took the company into two-wheel braking.

Source: Brembo — company history, early supply contracts, group brands and manufacturing countries (third-party), read 2026-09-02

Two contracts are listed above because two are dated in the published history we read. That same history names BMW, Chrysler, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Porsche among the manufacturers Brembo went on to supply, without saying when any of those relationships began or whether they continue. We have therefore written them into the body of this page as manufacturers Brembo has supplied, rather than promoting them into the table above where they would read as current factory contracts. There is a related distinction that costs people money and it is set out in full below: a Brembo caliper fitted on the production line is original equipment, and it is not the same thing as the four aftermarket lines Brembo sells under the same badge.

Where it is made

  • Italy

Where the company started and where its operational base still is, in the province of Bergamo. Brembo's legal seat is registered in Amsterdam, which is a corporate arrangement rather than a description of where anything is made.

Source: Brembo — company history, early supply contracts, group brands and manufacturing countries (third-party), read 2026-09-02

  • Poland

One of Brembo's European manufacturing countries. Worth naming explicitly because a box marked Poland is the one that most often makes a UAE buyer suspect a copy, and on its own it is not a warning sign at all.

Source: Brembo — company history, early supply contracts, group brands and manufacturing countries (third-party), read 2026-09-02

  • China

Also part of Brembo's manufacturing footprint. The same point applies in the other direction: country of origin is not a test for authenticity, and treating it as one will have you rejecting genuine parts and accepting fakes with the right printing on the carton.

Source: Brembo — company history, early supply contracts, group brands and manufacturing countries (third-party), read 2026-09-02

  • Mexico

Brembo's manufacturing presence in North America extends beyond the United States, which is one reason the same part number can reach this market through more than one route.

Source: Brembo — company history, early supply contracts, group brands and manufacturing countries (third-party), read 2026-09-02

Beyond the four above, the same source names Brazil, Japan, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, giving roughly ten manufacturing countries in total. Brembo does not publish which plant builds which part number, so we cannot tell you where your specific disc was cast. What the list is genuinely useful for is settling an argument that happens at parts counters here every week: a genuine Brembo product is not necessarily an Italian-made one, and the country printed on the carton is evidence of logistics rather than of authenticity.

Brembo in the UAE

We name no UAE distributor for Brembo, and the reason is worth stating plainly rather than leaving as a gap. A Dubai performance retailer states on its own website that it is the official and exclusive dealer of Brembo high-performance products in the Middle East and the exclusive supplier of Brembo's brake configurator in the UAE. We could not confirm that from Brembo, and exclusivity is precisely the claim a competitor who believes it is untrue would object to us repeating. Other Dubai traders sell Brembo as well. If an appointment matters to your purchase, ask the seller to show you the appointment on Brembo's own paperwork, and note that for brake parts specifically there is a more useful question, set out at the end of this page, about conformity documentation.

Sixty years from a Bergamo machine shop

Brembo was established on 11 January 1961 in Paladina, in the province of Bergamo in northern Italy, by Emilio Bombassei and Italo Breda. Alberto Bombassei has chaired the company through most of its modern history. Its legal seat is registered in Amsterdam while its operational base has stayed in the Bergamo area, which is a corporate arrangement rather than a relocation. The scale today is substantial: revenue of 3,849.2 million euros in 2023 and 15,653 employees.

The founding date matters more than a company history usually does, because the first contract came very quickly after it. Brembo entered into a supply contract with Alfa Romeo in 1964, three years in, and became Moto Guzzi's brake component supplier in 1966. Those two dates are the reason Brembo is an Italian braking company rather than an Italian machining company, and they are the two relationships this page is willing to put in a table.

Everything after that is the part people quote loosely. Published accounts of the company's history name BMW, Chrysler, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Porsche among the manufacturers Brembo went on to supply, and that is very likely how most readers first encountered the badge, on a caliper behind the wheel of a car built by one of them. What those accounts do not say is when each relationship began or whether it is current, so this page says that Brembo has supplied those manufacturers, and does not say that it currently supplies any of them. The gap between those two sentences is exactly the kind of gap that gets filled in by guesswork on a brand page, and we are leaving it visible instead.

A factory Brembo caliper is not the same thing as a Brembo aftermarket line

This is the single most common misunderstanding about the brand, and it costs people money in both directions.

A performance car that leaves the factory with Brembo calipers has original-equipment Brembo hardware on it, specified by the vehicle manufacturer and built to that manufacturer's requirement. The four lines described on this page are something else: Brembo's own aftermarket catalogue, sold under Brembo's positioning rather than the carmaker's, for cars whether or not they were built with Brembo parts.

Two mistakes follow from mixing them up. The first is the owner of a car with factory Brembo calipers who assumes any pad in a Brembo box is the correct pad for those calipers. It is not: the caliper takes the pad shape and compound specified for it, that part number is what has to match, and the badge on the box does not do the matching. The second is the owner of an ordinary car who believes the Brembo aftermarket range is only for cars that came with Brembo. It is not that either. Prime exists for the everyday vehicle and Brembo positions it on safety and reliability rather than on performance.

The way through both is the same. Give the counter the make, model, year and body variant, and buy against a part number. On brakes the part number is not bureaucracy, it is the entire specification.

Telling the lines apart when the box is already open

Brembo colour-codes its aftermarket pads, which is unusually helpful because it means the line is identifiable in the hand rather than only on the packaging. The shim, the thin plate on the back of the pad, is black on Prime, red on Xtra and silver on Beyond.

The backing plate carries a second code, and this one tells you the compound family rather than the line: black for the low-metallic compounds, grey for the organic and ceramic ones, blue for the Beyond electric-vehicle pad and green for Beyond Greenance. Brembo also states that the Xtra pad compounds, in both their standard and ceramic forms, are copper-free.

This is worth thirty seconds when a set of pads is handed to you. Colours are not proof of anything on their own, and a determined counterfeit can be painted. But a pad whose colours do not correspond to any line in Brembo's own scheme is a pad worth asking a second question about, and asking that question at the counter is easier than asking it after the pads are fitted.

The racing lineage, and what it honestly transfers

Brembo is the braking systems provider for Formula One, and it also supplies MotoGP, IndyCar and Formula E. That is a genuine and rare position: one company's brakes on an entire grid.

It is also the claim most likely to be oversold to you at a counter, so here is the honest version of what it transfers. A Formula One brake is a carbon-carbon disc and pad that has to be brought up to an enormous operating temperature before it works properly at all, and it would be actively dangerous on a road car doing school runs in Dubai. Nothing about the physical part crosses over. What crosses over is engineering: thermal modelling, materials science, how a caliper is made stiff without being heavy, and decades of data about what happens to brakes at their limit.

So treat motorsport as evidence about the company rather than as a specification of the product in front of you. It says Brembo knows a great deal about braking. It does not say that the pad in the box is a racing pad, and any seller who implies that it is has told you something about themselves rather than about the pad.

The group is larger than the badge

Brembo has spent two decades buying specialists rather than only growing the core brand, and several names a UAE buyer will meet separately belong to the same group: AP Racing, J.Juan, Marchesini, ByBre and SBS Friction. In October 2024 the group acquired the Swedish suspension manufacturer Ohlins for 405 million dollars.

That is worth knowing for one practical reason. Somebody specifying a performance build here may end up buying Brembo brakes and Ohlins dampers, believing they are hedging across two independent suppliers. They are buying from one group. That is not an argument against either product; it is simply a fact about the market that a shop has no particular reason to volunteer.

Discs, heat and the claim we are not going to make

Ask about drilled or slotted discs in this country and you will be told they run cooler, because everything gets explained by the heat here. We are not going to tell you that.

What we can tell you is where the discs sit in Brembo's own range. Drilled and slotted discs are part of the Xtra line, which Brembo positions on quality, reliability and style rather than on thermal performance, and the coated discs Brembo talks about in terms of long life and corrosion resistance are in the Beyond line, aimed at electric and high-mileage vehicles. Those are the manufacturer's own descriptions of what each line is for.

The reason we stop there is that the effect of cross-drilling on road-car brake temperature is genuinely contested engineering, we have no source that measures it, and the Gulf ambient temperature everyone reaches for is not the variable that decides how hot a brake disc gets anyway. What heats a disc is repeated hard braking from speed, mass, and gradient. The realistic worst case for most cars here is a heavily loaded vehicle coming down off a mountain road, and the answer to that is the right specification and unfaded fluid, not a pattern of holes.

If the appearance of drilled discs is what you want, that is a completely legitimate reason to buy them, and Xtra is the line that has them. Buying them as a heat fix is buying a solution to a problem nobody has measured on your car.

Buying Brembo in the UAE, and the one document worth asking for

There is no named Brembo distributor on this page, for the reason set out above: the strongest claim we found was a retailer describing its own exclusivity, and that is an advertisement rather than a verification.

What is worth having instead is a question that applies to any brake part sold here, whoever made it. Under UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 12 of 2018, fourteen categories of automotive spare part, explicitly including brake systems and brake pads, may not be imported or placed on the market unless they are registered under the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme and covered by a certificate of conformity. It came into force in January 2019 with the stated aim of filtering counterfeit and defective parts out of the market. A legitimate importer has that documentation. Ask for it. Our brakes hub goes through what that scheme covers, and what the separate ECE R90 friction approval mark on a pad does and does not mean, in considerably more detail than a brand page should.

The rest is ordinary discipline. Buy pads and discs in axle sets rather than one wheel at a time. Give the counter the model, year and variant, since two versions of the same car frequently take different discs. Check what the quote includes, because on brakes the fluid and the labour are a real share of the total. And keep the box: on a part where conformity documentation is a legal requirement, the packaging is part of what you bought.

Shops for brakes in the UAE

These shops are here because their recorded stock covers at least one of brake pads, brake discs, calipers and brake rotors — not because we have confirmed that each one carries Brembo. We hold no reliable shop-by-shop record of which brands are on which shelf, so ring or message before you travel.

Brembo — common questions

What are Brembo's four car lines?
Prime, Beyond, Xtra and Upgrade. Prime is the standard road line with UV-coated discs and Prime and Prime Ceramic pads. Beyond is built around specially coated discs and matched pads for electric and long-mileage vehicles. Xtra covers drilled or slotted discs, copper-free sport pad compounds and coloured aluminium calipers. Upgrade is big brake kits and carbon-ceramic discs. If you have been told the choice is between Brembo and Brembo Xtra, that is an older line-up.
Is Brembo Xtra better than Brembo Prime?
They are positioned differently rather than stacked one above the other. Brembo presents Prime as the safety and reliability line for the everyday car, and Xtra as a blend of quality, reliability and style with drilled or slotted discs and sport compounds. For a car used to commute and carry a family, Prime is the line Brembo built for that job, and choosing Xtra over it is a choice about feel and appearance rather than an upgrade in safety.
My car came with Brembo calipers. Do I have to buy Brembo pads?
No, and it is important not to read the badge as a specification. A factory Brembo caliper is original equipment fitted to the vehicle manufacturer's requirement. What it needs is the pad shape and compound specified for that caliper, identified by part number. That pad may be supplied by Brembo or by another manufacturer. Give the counter the model, year and variant and buy against the number rather than against the name.
Where are Brembo brakes made?
In roughly ten countries. Alongside Italy, published accounts of the company name Brazil, China, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States. Brembo does not publish which plant makes which part number, so a genuine Brembo disc may well not be Italian, and the country on the carton is not a test of whether a part is real.
Are drilled or slotted Brembo discs better in UAE heat?
We are not going to tell you they are, because we have no source that measures it and the effect of cross-drilling on road-car disc temperature is contested. Brembo itself positions the drilled and slotted discs in the Xtra line on quality, reliability and style, not on cooling. What actually heats a disc is repeated hard braking from speed, vehicle mass and gradient rather than the air temperature. Buy them because you want them, not as a heat remedy.
How can I tell which Brembo line a set of pads came from?
Brembo colour-codes them. The shim is black on Prime, red on Xtra and silver on Beyond. The backing plate indicates the compound family: black for low-metallic, grey for organic and ceramic, blue for the Beyond electric-vehicle pad and green for Beyond Greenance. Colours are a useful check rather than proof, but a set whose colours match nothing in Brembo's own scheme deserves a second question before it is fitted.
Does Brembo own Ohlins?
Yes. Brembo acquired the Swedish suspension manufacturer Ohlins in October 2024 for 405 million dollars. The group also owns AP Racing, J.Juan, Marchesini, ByBre and SBS Friction. Worth knowing if you are specifying brakes and dampers separately and believed you were buying from two independent companies.
Which manufacturers fit Brembo at the factory?
Two relationships are dated in the history we read: Alfa Romeo from 1964 and Moto Guzzi from 1966. The same account names BMW, Chrysler, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Porsche among manufacturers Brembo went on to supply, without dating them or saying whether they continue, so this page says Brembo has supplied them rather than that it currently does. A factory Brembo caliper on a specific car is a question for that car's own parts catalogue.
Does Brembo have an official distributor in the UAE?
We could not verify one, so we name none. A Dubai performance retailer describes itself on its own site as the official and exclusive Brembo high-performance dealer for the Middle East, and we did not find that confirmed by Brembo. Other Dubai traders also sell the brand. If appointment matters to you, ask to see it on Brembo's paperwork rather than on the seller's.
What should I ask for when buying brake pads in the UAE?
Ask for the certificate of conformity. Under UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 12 of 2018, brake systems and brake pads are among fourteen categories of spare part that may not be placed on the market without registration under the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme, in force since January 2019. A legitimate importer will have the documentation. Ask about the ECE R90 friction approval mark on the backing plate as well, and read our brakes hub on what that mark does and does not legally mean here.
Is Brembo used in Formula One?
Brembo is the braking systems provider for Formula One, and also supplies MotoGP, IndyCar and Formula E. Be careful what you conclude from it. A Formula One brake is a carbon-carbon assembly that only works once it is extremely hot and would be dangerous on a road car. What transfers is engineering knowledge, not the part, so treat the racing record as evidence about the company rather than as a description of the pads in the box.
What do Brembo brakes cost in the UAE?
This page carries no prices. A brake job is not a single item: the total moves with whether you are buying pads alone or pads and discs, which of the four lines the part comes from, whether the fluid is changed at the same time, and what the workshop charges to do the work. Manufacturers do not publish installed UAE prices and a figure left on a brand page goes stale quietly. Send us the car and what needs doing, and we will come back with what the shops that stock it are asking.
