By August, Dubai's heat has done its sorting. The same categories of damage roll through our studio every year, almost on schedule: baked-in water spots, chalked budget film, swirled black paint, and interiors that aged a decade in one uncovered summer. Here is what we actually see at Grand Touch — what each problem costs to fix in 2026, and what would have prevented it.

1. Baked-in water spots

Sprinkler overspray or a hard-water wash, left to dry on a 90°C panel, etches minerals into the clear coat within hours. By late summer we are polishing spots out weekly — and deep etching sometimes needs wet-sanding before polish, which removes clear coat you cannot put back.

Prevention is boring and effective: rinse promptly, prefer filtered or soft-water washes, do not let sprinklers hit a hot parked car, and use a ceramic coating that gives you a longer window before etching sets. Once spots are etched, coating alone will not erase them — correction first, protection second.

2. Cheap film failing loudly

August is when budget PPF and tint confess. Bargain film that looked fine in January comes in yellowed, hazed or edge-lifted — and removal is often harder on the paint than the years of sun would have been. Inferior film tears instead of peeling; adhesive can lift clear coat after a UAE summer bake.

3. Black cars, swirled

Dust plus quick unwashed wipes plus soft paint equals swirl city, and dark metallics show all of it in afternoon sun. Soft-touch wash technique fixes most of it going forward; a machine polish resets it; PPF on high-impact panels or a proper ceramic coating keeps it reset.

If you own a black or dark car in Dubai and you are still dry-wiping dust in the office car park, you are sanding the clear coat with grit. We would rather tell you that now than sell you a polish every August.

4. Interiors aging in fast-forward

Dashboards, leather and stitching UV-age visibly in one uncovered summer. Quality ceramic window film is the single highest-impact fix — it cuts cabin heat and blocks the UV doing the aging, without going illegally dark. UAE law caps darkness at 50% VLT; ceramic film earns its keep on infrared rejection, not on how black the glass looks.

5. What else walks through the door in peak heat

  • Faded plastics and chalked trim — uncoated exterior plastics bleach; restoration is temporary without ongoing dressing or paint/trim protection.
  • Oxidised or hazed headlights — UV + heat; restoration is common mid-summer maintenance, not a one-off forever fix.
  • Failed self-healing claims on cheap PPF — real self-healing needs heat and real TPU chemistry; fake film just softens and scars.
  • Edge lift on rushed installs — heat finds every unfinished edge. Pattern work and wrapped edges matter more in the Gulf than in mild climates.

What we recommend before next August

  3. Stop dry-wiping dust — especially on black paint.
  4. Do not buy "cheap premium" film — if the quote cannot include manufacturer registration, it is not premium.

FAQ

Is ceramic coating enough for Dubai summers?

For easier washing, gloss and a buffer against light etching — yes, as part of a system. It is not stone-chip protection. Highway front ends still want PPF if chips are the fear.

When should I book paint correction?

When swirls or etching are already visible. Correction removes defects; coating or film preserves the result. Doing coating over etched spots locks the damage under a pretty layer.

My cheap PPF is yellowing — can you save it?

Usually the honest answer is removal, correction if needed, then genuine film with registration. Patching failing budget film rarely ends well in Gulf heat.

Does tint really protect the interior?

Quality ceramic film blocks the vast majority of UV and cuts infrared heat. Combined with parking shade when you can get it, it is the highest-ROI interior defence we recommend.

What does a summer "health check" cost?
